My husband and I have stayed with Vicki and Kenny at Emily's House twice now... and each time it has been so comfortable and relaxing... like going home to visit with family, but without all the awkward family drama that is sure to arise with the blood relatives. The first trip was a romantic weekend away after the hectic holiday season (I work in retail so November and December are always a flat sprint). And our second trip we invited another couple to come along and shared the hidden treasure we had discovered earlier in the year.
The rooms are well appointed, sparkling clean and charming. The beds are amazing: the perfect blend of firm mattress, thick, plush feather bed to sink into, and soft sheets that pull you into an amazing slumber... better even than a Westin "Heavenly Bed".
Vicki is a fantastic cook. She provides a varied menu for breakfast, we've had her sweet and her savory dishes, and it's hard to say which is my favorite... but her butternut squash and kale strata might just barely edge out the blueberry stuffed french toast... but only slightly. You can also arrange to have a home cooked meal and bottle of wine as part of your stay, and we've done this both trips. Vicki is passionate about fresh local produce, and uses her past experience as a personal trainer to compose well balanced, healthy meals that are still a treat to the tasebuds.
We've also had the great pleasure to be able to have a wine tour with both Vicki and with Kenny.... what a great day. We had a customized trip where they referred us to some wineries based on what we like in a wine, but also incorporated our must visits, a lovely picnic lunch and more laughter and mirth than we can remember.
I can't recommend any more highly taking the opportunity to spend some time in this lovely home. The people are warm, the food is amazing and the entire time is a pure joy. We love Emily's house and plan to return often.
