This was my first venture into Peruvian food and I look forward to trying it again. My husband and I split the meat empanada and the fried plantains for the appetizers. The empanada was yummy in that the crust was big and flaky and the meat filling was rich and the perfect amount of sweet! The dipping sauce for the fried plantain was so yummy, both my husband and I would have licked it clean had that been proper. And I can't forget the yummy bread and the tasty dipping sauces that came with it - that alone could be a meal!

For our entrees, I ordered the pulled pork with the red wine sauce (Lechon Adobado) and mashed potatoes. The sauce with the pork was divine, although I was a little thrown by the deep red color. The mashed potatoes were also good, although slightly gummy. My husband ordered a seafood dish with shrimp, scallops, and other delights from the sea with fettuccine and a creamy spicy sauce - yum!

This place has a casual vibe and has the potential to get loud. There was a gentleman with a nice voice playing live music, but it was not overpowering or obnoxious. The service here was OK; we were assisted by various staff throughout the evening. We did not have dessert, but the items in the bakery case looked like they were worth a shot.

I would come back again and would recommend this restaurant if you happen to be in the Pasadena area.

I am a regular patron of Choza Mama, and as far as Peruvian food goes, this is one of the best in the L.A. area. The portions are generous, the flavors are fresh and the buffet lunch when it is available is fantastic! Sonia, the owner, is warm, friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended.
