We had a comfortable king-bed room overlooking the pool. Bedding was excellent, bathroom amenities were nice. We only got to stay for one night, but I would certainly go back and recommend this hotel.

Pool area was nice and we enjoyed drinks by the pool at night and breakfast by the pool in the morning. The staff I encountered went out of their way to be helpful.

Room Tip: noise is NOT an issue when overlooking the pool.

We stayed here during a visit to Stanford. Nice beds, a clean room, but carpets etc seemed a bit worn down. Too cold to enjoy the swimming pool. Breakfast good with a chef for omelets. Some from our group complained about disturbing traffic noise from outside the rooms during the night.

Room Tip: A room away from the traffic noise

This hotel has several high points:
* Perfect location if you are visiting Stanford or downtown Palo Alto
* Attractive pool area and indoor/outdoor bar and lounge
* Reasonable price for the area

However, this is not a nice Sheraton. The hotel needs a major facelift. All surfaces are worn and stained, and the smell is faintly musty. In short, you feel like you are staying in a value-priced hotel. In my case, I did have a good rate (around one twenty nine), and I recognized that in Palo Alto this is fairly cheap.

I would personally stay there again if I get a similar rate for a solo trip, but I would not recommend it for couples or anyone who has high standards. (My wife for example, would have been disappointed). For me, it is acceptable, and the location makes up for the mediocre quality. I was able to run directly up Palm Drive and enjoy a 4 mile loop through campus one afternoon. (There is a small, new looking gym, but why run on a treadmill when the Stanford campus is so great for running?) Downtown is even closer, and the Cal Train stop is next door (I should mention that the train is audible, depending which room you get. I recommend a room facing the inner courtyard pool area, not the back train or the front El Camino roadway).

All in all, this hotel is recommended if you are on a budget and prefer the ideal location. Other options include the Westin next door and some nice boutique hotels downtown, if quality is more important and you are willing to spend more.

P.S. Go Cardinal!

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms will be quieter

The hotel is arranged in the style of a motel with parking and entrances everywhere. The rooms are decent and there are some tables and chairs around the centrally located pool. Breakfast was good, the location great.

The main downsides are that the air conditioner could not keep up with the heat (in late April!), they won't let you eat take out food at the outside tables and if there are no tables available outside in the area that is apparently designated for breakfast then the staff still refuse to serve you at the empty but otherwise identical tables that are six feet away. Internet is pricey and slow.

Room Tip: Away from the pool and not facing the railway tracks.

We thought it would be more expensive than it was, but it was reasonable. Real mini-vacation. Grounds are very beautiful. Close to public transportation. All very nice linens. Starwood hotels do a good job, we are now looking to use their hotels more. Was surprised at how nice the grounds are. Service was cheerful and good for us.
