“Sourdough bread and butter?”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

We had high expectations of this restaurant based on recommendations from friends, and we left disappointed.
No good Italian serves sourdough bread and butter to start. Next up, the wine list which was very limited especially if you only wanted to buy by the glass.
The main course was one redeeming factor and is why it even gets an average rating, our meals were both pleasant.
I always judge an Italian by its Tiramisu, the classic Italian dessert, and this was ...average.
The ambiance is lively without being overwhelming, the setting positive, it doesn't try to say Sicily.
As such its an average experience.

“Fast food, but good food.”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

Quick lunch in Palo Alto; noisy, crowded, but well-prepared food. Apparently reliable and popular, the place emptied after 1:00. We had eggplant w/spinach - very nice, very large portions. Good salads, also very ample. Reasonably priced.

Only the pasta but not the sauces. But great service. Just don't expect to get this food in Italy

I've been here three times over the years, always willing to give Osteria another try, I really want to like it. There's nothing bad about Osteria, and, there's nothing good about Osteria. Perhaps I'm an Italian food snob but the homemade pasta that everyone raves about at Osteria is simply "meh" to me. There's always a long wait, even if you make a reservation. The restaurant is small and they pack a ton of people in there. There's not too many vegetarian options and the service is spotty. Portions are huge so plan for having leftovers for lunch (if you can stomach eating their leftovers again, I can't). I'll probably be returning, but it won't be my idea.

“Great food, great value”
Reviewed April 24, 2012

Food is excellent, best family Italian restaurant in Bay area.
Great value. Wait staff is efficient and friendly. Tables are always cramped, however, that is part of the dining experience. Best pasta !!
