First things first this is not a budget restaurant. Simply stated the food was outstanding with many unique dishes and unique presentations. Wine selection was impressive. From appetizers to desert everything was an experience. Some of the other review of this restaurant seem to be concerned with small portions and lack of flavor. The portions seemed quite impressive considering the quality of the food. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking a unique dining experience.

The food, drinks and service are beyond outstanding. We had steaks that were around $47.00 and well worth it. If you really want to get pampered, this is the place. There was 6 of us there and 3 waiters served the food in unison. It wasn't one waiter making 3 trips with the food. We were all able to eat at the same time. Each meal that was place down before us was then explained to all as to what it was. This place really does make a big fuss for you. But that is what you are paying for.

Good, not great. Appetizers (especially the lobster risotto) were outstanding, but the entrees were bland and really just lacked flavor. As soon as the waiter appeared and pushed beef as the nightly special, I was nervous. A seafood place pushing beef as the special? Not a good sign. The cheese course was the best part of the meal, but my bland, overcooked, rubbery lobster tail was hard to overlook.

The wine list is broad but not very deep. Only 3 or 4 blockbusters on the entire list.

I'll give it three stars for the cheese course, the appetizers, and the good service. But, on the ultimate test -- will I be back -- the answer is probably no. If someone else booked reservations here I would not refuse to show up, but I will not be adding this restaurant to my regular list.

This is definitely an upscale, upprice place. The Presentation is beautiful. The Food is excellent. The Servings are on the small side for many people, I am sure, since we here in the USA expect large portions, but we prefer a smaller portion and came away delightfuly fed and treated.

We enjoyed :
TAJIMA F1 BEEF TATAKI Appetizer withchives, fresno chili, garlic, mustard-soy vinaigrette
LOBSTER ROCKS Appetizer with almond purée, trufe, mitsuba
HALIBUT T-BONE (WILD HALF MOON BAY) Entree wth baby octopus, half moon bay butter beans, prosciutto, basil oil
SOFT SHELL CRAB
HARICOT VERTS with shallots, butter
Scoops of ICE CREAM
Bottle of a CA WINE
AfterDinner APERTIF
Pre AMUSE-BOUCHE - Salmon Tartar
Post AMUSE-BOUCE - 3 assorted sweets
a cone of COTTON CANDY presented as the finishing Enjoyment

There is almost too much Wait Staff hovering around and moving around qhickly and quietly.. What I do like, however, is that your dishes and selections are presented at the same time to the whole table, and cleared away after the last person is finished. You can do that with a large staff. That is how a fine restaurant should do it. It is also fun to watch the Kitchen and the chefs and cooks. As the restaurant filled up, the kitchen staff got into the preparation and plating - high intensity. - A fine restaurant also serves little treats (AMUSE-BOUCHE); The Sea serves a Pre and Post Amuse-bouche, along with an ending finishing treat of a cone of Cotton Candy. Although it doesn't relieve the pain of your final bill, it definitely ends the whole affair at The Sea on a fun note.

We would definitely recommend The Sea, and would come back the next time we come to the Palo Alto area.
