Well crafted Indian dishes with fresh ingredients taste good. The service is good. The restaurant, which used to be Junoon, is pretty. It was a very pleasant dinner.

Excellent food, great service, memorable experience. I can go back here again and again. Though there are a few restaurants of the ' Amber' chain, each is unique and different.

There are two places contending for high-end indian influenced fusion in downtown PA. One is Amber Dhara, one is Mantra. Amber is a mini-chain, with the "original amber" being over on El Camino and much more standard northern indian food. It's very, very good and a nice atmosphere. Amber Dhara is more cutting edge - they took over from a restaurant called Junoon which was even more original. The dishes are "different" and the tastes fresh. Portions are _small_, wine list is only OK. There is a private dining room for about 10 people so if you want to have a small business dinner, this is a good choice (Mantra has a similar room). Modestly upscale without being stuffy.

We had a lovely meal with friends at Amber Dhara. The menu was creative, and there wasn't anything on it I wouldn't want to try. The four of us ordered:
2 starters (the scallops, and the potato & chickpea chat on wheat crispies - with 3 chutneys that, unfortunately, we didn't know what they were there for),
3 main dishes (duck, braised lamb, and fish masala),
one Three Saag & Paneer dish (plenty for 4 people), and
one order each of roti and mushroom naan.
This was a good amount of food for 4, and everything was tasty. They had a good list of non-alcoholic drinks (we had a mango and a pomegranite drink, which were good), as well as a decent wine list. The cocktail list looked intriguing as well (we didn't try any of them).
The service was good, the space is pleasant (it's the old Junnoon space).
We will be back to try other things on the menu. This is a great place to satisfy an Indian food craving.

Amber Dhara has an ideal balance of fine dining and casual; elegant and comfortable; professional staff that are personable. And the food! If you enjoy Indian food and have a craving - go here. I had the vegetarian Thali plate for lunch (like Greek meze). For just $11, you are presented with a beautiful silver tray with about 8 small cups with 2-3 tablespoons for each sampling: about five curries with rice, two desserts and naan, plus a separate sampler of chutneys with papadum The Thali comes with refills too, not that you need them. I loved the food so much that I went back another day for dinner take-away. The dinner menu doesn't offer the Thali, so I had the vegetable korma and the trio paneer starter. Amazing! In chatting with the staff, I learned that the chefs come from all regions of India and work to design a creative, yet authentic menu. Beyond the menu, the atmosphere was lovely. You can walk in and sit at the bar; have a large table for a business lunch; or have a lingering dinner with friends at a cozy booth. According the website, there are six Amber's in the Bay Area.
