After hearing great reviews about this restaurant we finally got to the Mayfield Bakery And Cafe.
We made a reservation which was very smart. We got an early reservation and it was still crowded. We chose to sit at the bar which turned out to be more fun.
The food is so good. As of now it is our favorite place in Palo Alto.
We started with a House Cocktail made of berries, lemon, vodka,& club soda, very good. Sour dough bread and butter were served. Having been baked there it was very fresh and smelled great. We shared two appetizers, gnocchi with mushroom sauce and polenta and meatloaf. We each had a glass of wine and divided a dessert. Our bill was almost one hundred dollars including tip. Each item was well prepared and had great flavor.
The staff had great energy and were so much fun, even though they were extremely busy.
I have heard that this is Normal for this restaurant. We have not heard anything negative about this place in the time it has been opened.
They have a great brunch on Sat. and Sun. from about 9-2pm.
The bakery is right next door and you can watch what is happening through windows. The bread is fabulous. Sour dough, baguettes, etc. When they have bread left over they give a loaf to each patron as you leave.
They really want you to be happy ! What a concept! We love it!
