“The Palmdale works hard to please”

The hotel is an old hotel undergoing renovation - mostly complete, I'd say, but things like a missing refrigerator from our room indicate they have a little finishing up to do. The staff is very friendly, the free breakfast buffet is all hot food (eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, beverages). Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean. The pool is a nice cool retreat from the summer heat. The jacuzzi is nice as well. It is an older property but they have made strides to bring it up to modern standards.
Its location is near the 14 freeway -- convenient, but from the outside it looks abandoned. We were at a reunion there and I was pleasantly surprised because from the outside it is someplace I would not have considered staying (it still looks old and there are some closed businesses there so it is a little foreboding).

Room Tip: Our room was on the freeway side but was still quiet. The AC on automatic does go on and off by its...

Checked into what the website describes as an upscale hotel with one of a kind glass elevator. What you really get is a poorly lit parking lot complete with vandals, no security cameras on the parking lot, and a glass elevator that has been enclosed in a brick and mortar enclosure. After checking in at 2pm on Saturday, Sept 1st, I went to my room via the foul smelling "glass" elevator. About a minute after being in the room I noticed two electrical cords running across the floor where one could easily trip over. One was for the lamp and the other for the mini fridge. Both had to be stepped over constantly (don't try it in the dark). Then all of a sudden there was a very loud hum about as loud as an alarm clock. This loud awakening hum turned out to be the elevator three doors down that the machinery shares a crawl space with the rooms and the noise is very loud everytime someone runs the elevator (at least once every five minutes)! At 3pm I went to my Harley Trike and found a scratch on it. Apparently someone was not happy about it being in the handicapped parking even though it has handicap stickers. I asked the hotel clerk to look at the security tapes and he said they don't have security cameras except in the front of the hotel. I asked about the elevator noise and he said, "yeah, we hear that complaint all the time". I asked about handicap bars in the shower as the water is either luke warm or scalding causing one to jump when it changes temps on it own. He said the bars are not necessary unless it is a designated handicapped room. He is wrong. My own store is required to have handicap bars in the bathroom and our restrooms are not open to the public. I am NOT a whiney handicapped type person. In fact, I think most of the handicap laws are bs. But I believe since we do have the laws, they should apply or not apply to all businesses, not just a selected few. The vending machines were out of order and you have to go to the 1st floor to get ice. I have stayed at far better Motel 6's than this "high end" hotel. What a dump! And the hair on the hair dryer was a turn off.

Room Tip: Do not choose this hotel.

This was a nice hotel with comfortable rooms, a nice breakfast buffet, and very good meals in the Sunset grill. The overall experience was comparable with some of the bigger names that I've stayed at in the Palmdale area, Embassy Suites, Marriott, etc. The Palmdale could use a new coat of paint and some sprucing up, but these issues did not impact my comfort. However, I stayed for a business trip where function, comfort, and convenience were important. This would not be my choice for a romantic getaway.

I was only there for one night (working), but I couldn't have been more impressed. Okay, so it's not the Biltmore (which I stayed at the next night), but this is Palmdale. Whoever took this older hotel and made it into what it is now should be commended. Reminded me of places in Palm Springs or Scottsdale that have been given a makeover. The staff were great, the room great (good amenities, updated), no complaints here.

We will not make this mistake again. Lamp in room doesn't work...have communicated this three days in a row, including to Manager Jennifer and it has still not been fixed. No ice bucket in room, but after I finally got one, I went up to the ice machine to find out it was broken! At least there was some leftover take-out in the refrigerator! Peeling paint in the bathroom. Returning to the room on the third night, suddenly the keys wouldn't work. Oh well, this building was the first Holiday Inn in Palmdale back in the 70s, and its probably time to tear it down and start over.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel!

No ice in the machines, no silverware available for use in the dining area (although we needed our "breakfast coupons" to get a Very limited (and greasy) breakfast and they ran out of towels. Front desk staff was rude. Decent pool area but needs umbrellas in 95 degree weather.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.
