The hotel feels like a millenial convention site. So if you aren't in your 20's & 30's this may mot be the place for you.The rooms need work, and the mid-century retro theme is over done. Room was very dark and because we were near the pool and a busy hallway, it was very noisy , all the time.Housing took forever!

Room tip: Room was dark and on a "busy" hallway so noisy most of the time.Hotel caters to 20-30's group so we felt out of place.

Dear 45teresaa,

Thank you for your constructive remarks.

The millennial remark is quite surprising. Our guests are actually from all age groups and from all over the world.

Design is truly a personal interpretation, so understandably, everyone has their own views/reactions to various designs.

Thank you for staying with us. We do wish you safe and happy travels.

We live a couple of hours away, and have been to at least 10 different hotels in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. There are only 3 that we choose to come back to repeatedly, and the Avalon is our favorite to go to when we come as a couple.

This past time at the Avalon, Michael at reservations went above and beyond when I told him it was my husband's birthday. We were spoiled, and felt very welcomed. We stayed in a gorgeous bungalow that has the perfect Palm Springs vibe-- updated casita with a little private lounge space. I was told Kelly Wearstler designed the rooms, and that sounds right to me. Great updated 70's Regency feel. Definitely a lot of stark white, but in a way that feels cool and updated. Even though it was cold and somewhat rainy while we were there, our fireplace added such a great feel that we didn't want to leave.

I love the extras that my favorite hotels include, and I always try to maximize my experience when I am there. From the weekend yoga (taught by great teachers) to the welcome drink to the cute bikes you can borrow, the Avalon includes a lot of these little extras that make it feel so special. Though not large in quantity and fairly expensive, the food is delicious and you can choose to be healthy without sacrificing taste. And the bed-- it truly is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on.

When you combine its great location in downtown Palm Springs with the helpful staff, beautiful grounds, great little extras, and decadent spaces, I think this is the perfect couples get away. That said, I don't see it as a party place or a great place to bring our kids (rarely do we see kids older than 1 years old there). It is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy your special someone. Highly recommend.

Dear Dcclerk,

Thank you for the delightfully detailed exceptional review!

You captured the 'essence' of the Avalon, with your exquisite description of our amenities from our Culinary offerings, the bungalows with the fireplaces, our incredible location, our over four acres of manicured grounds, and our very dedicated colleagues who take wonderful care of our guests.

On behalf of our Avalon team, please extend our "Happy Birthday" wishes to your husband! We appreciate you staying with us, and we do hope to see you again very soon.

I always try to use an objective approach to reviewing a property. The staff was excellent as was the valet who brought us to our room. The cleanliness was top notch. The gardens, pool area and compound are fantastic and beautifully maintained. The sleep quality is excellent, from an exceptionally comfortable mattress to the high quality bedding. The location and proximity to the historic downtown is ideal. The only negative for me, and this is where the subjective comes into play, was the decor. I realize this may be the trendy style now. However, the white on white with a touch of black for accent made me feel uncomfortable and cold. If they could add some canvases with some colour to warm up the room ambiance, I would have wanted to spend time in my room. The bathroom is very simple and lacks space to place your toiletries. Outstanding amenities. Overall, very pleased!

Our room was very good and the pools and dining area were clean and well-staffed at all times. The dining room food was excellent and there was always coffee available. Poolside service was similarly excellent. What sets Avalon apart from many is the quality of the staff - always willing to ensure that questions are answered and issues resolved quickly.
