My wife and I stayed a three-night long weekend for our anniversary, the weekend after Memorial Day 2010. We had a really nice time, but overall felt there were lots of little things that added up to turn what could have been a great stay into a good one.

The property is in good shape. Not cutting edge, but not out of date. The lobby and common areas are, as you'd expect, showy and glossy. People seemed to be enjoying them but we didn't really spend much time in them so I'll pass on commentary.

The rooms are nice, spacious, and well-appointed. All of the appliances and technology seemed appropriate and in working, new-ish condition. The HVAC system was very loud, kicking on and off every few minutes, but beyond that, we did not have any noise issues. There were a few housekeeping details that could have been better attended to, from cleaning to upkeep, to an unstocked minibar, but overall, the room earned a "good."

The pool area was in good condition. Some furniture could stand replacement or repair, but overall things were fine. The pool was fairly clean, but got very sandy and a bit dirty as the weekend progressed. There were not nearly enough waitstaff and when you actually could flag them down, they'd frequently forget your order or take literally a half hour to serve drinks. The pool management really wanted to be liked as "good guys", but they really needed more hands on deck and to worry less about being everybody's buddy, and just do a good job. They did nothing to curtail drunken kids splashing the grown-ups and hitting other guests in the head with their football. Also, the resort claims to be no-smoking but they don't enforce that policy in the pool area. We were pretty disappointed in the pool staff overall though we enjoyed the pool area on the whole.

We did not use the spa as the prices were ridiculous, but the gym was pretty nice. They had a couple of rows of new-ish cardio machines in good shape, each with its own large TV. There were dumbells from 10 to 50 lbs, a cable-crossover setup with a decent assortment of attachments, and some swiss balls. The gym was mostly clean, cool, and well-appointed. I enjoyed a couple of a great workouts.

We arrived Thursday night at about 10PM, and by 11, we were unable to order any food or drinks. Staff suggested we order a pizza or go to Denny's. Friday and Saturday nights, things are open later but we were pretty surprised to see the resort close up to early on Thursday. We had dinner at their restaurant Circle 59, which was good, but not great. (notice a theme recurring?)

Overall, we found the staff to be not-so-great. We thought the facilities were good, but not great. The experience earned a solid "good" rating, but we'd probably try somewhere else next time we're in Palm Springs.

Given that you found your stay to be rated as "good", we will certainly be working harder to raise that to "excellent". You have shared ways in which our staff can improve and areas that need more attention. Thank you for choosing our resort. We do hope that you consider us for your next visit to Palm Springs.

My girlfriends and I planned a reunion trip to the Riviera. We had booked the hotel 3 months in advance requesting adjoining rooms. When we checked in, we were greeted my a very irritated front desk woman who proceeded to say that there were no adjoining rooms available. Needless to say, all 7 of us have traveled across the US to meet for the long weekend and it was important for us all to be together. The bar service at the pool was also horrible. The waitresses never seemed to have change so we would end up giving a huge tip, this seemed to be the way they made extra money. The pool never looked like it was cleaned and the hotel had a very bad smell. The one good thing was the comfort of the beds. I will definately try a new hotel next time!

I would like to apologize on behalf of the resort for the incidents that occurred during your stay. In any case of dissatisfaction, please bring it to the attention of management while on property. By doing so, we have a better chance of resolving an issue and ensuring our guests leave with a positive impression of the resort and our staff.

What can I say about this place? We booked 2 rooms here for Memorial Weekend expecting to have a quality stay. Unfortunately we should have realized what was going to be in store for us as we were checking in. The hotel instituted a policy of color wrist bands to ensure hotel guests were the only people using the pools for that weekend. We immediately saw numerous private security folk hired to 'defend' the pool areas.

On our way to the rooms we could not believe just how far a walk it is and how indirect access is to anything from your room. It is a very poorly designed hotel.

Once we arrived on our floor it was clear that there was a considerable amount of drug abuse going on throughout the building. The stench of marijuana and of people essentially dealing drugs in rooms and the corridors was aweful. I can understand people being up for a party, but essentially pushing this onto other guests is outrageous. There were children staying in this building for god sake. Obviously hotel staff are aware of the problems given they were walking around with us to show us to our rooms!

The main pool area was a disaster zone. There are not enough beds to accomodate the number of people that the hotel can accomodate. (Of course the hotel should not be letting 6 people stay in a room designed to hold 2). Locals and others not staying at the hotel were obviously getting in. Why hire private security that were totally ineffective?

We thought we could beat this issue on the 2nd day, but no, every single bed by 7am had been covered by a towel and something to say, "I have marked this spot". This was supposed to be against hotel policy.

The final nail in the coffin was a lunch charge billed to our room. We never ate at the hotel.

To charge a $25 a day resort fee given the above circumstances only makes things worse.

We will be writing Noble House and Resorts who own the hotel to express our outrage.

In response to your review, I would like to address specific statements. First and foremost, we take illegal activity very seriously and address any volatile situation immediately. As far as hiring extra security, we were being proactive by anticipating a busy weekend given it was a holiday and we had a Tango Festival on property. The pool is one of the highlights of the resort so in fact it is one of the first spaces guests occupy. We did implement the wristbands for the weekend in hopes of ensuring in-house guests exclusivity to the pool area. To respond to the "six person" per room statement, our reservation policy reads, "Room rates listed are per room, for up to four adults, using existing bedding". This is not the easiest policy to monitor at any hotel. The resort charge is a standard in our region. Please feel free to contact the resort directly with any further questions or concerns.

Arrived at the Riviera Spa and Hotel after a 2 hour drive from LA and was greeted with a professional reception and valet service although chose to self park near the block of rooms we were staying at. This was our first hotel of a 2 week road trip in California and in hind sight would probably of preferred to stay here towards the end.
We were given a room on the 3rd floor in block 5. No great views but a very clean and stylish room. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night so expected it to be busy. Hit the pool early (mainly due to jet lag) and was glad we had done so as it filled up by 9. The main pool was an average size with a polite and happy waitress service although a little slow due the crowds. The second pool looked slightly smaller but seem to have less of an atmosphere.
Breakfast by the pool was great and a good selection of cocktail/drinks for the day . Quite a young crowd around the pool which was preferable for us, but nothing which would annoy any other age group.
Had dinner at the hotel restaurant on the 1st night which was a little pricey but very worthwhile as the standard of food was top notch and within a lovely outside environment . The second night we ate at a mexican restaurant outside of the complex which was also very nice.
During our time in Palm Springs we visited the aerial tramway (only a couple of miles drive from the hotel) which is a must. and would take up on average half a day.
Overall our stay at the glamourous Riviera was very relaxing and although not cheap, most costs were justified in what we received in return.
