The food at the restaurant and bar is surprisingly awesome (the service at the outdoor restaurant is slooooow, but who cares? You're by a pool), the rooms are hip and comfortable in the Ace's typical style (though no coffee maker), you can borrow bikes for free (rode to get pedicures and check out retro architecture), and the pool and hot tub are really nice. We went in April, and it was very chill -- never super crowded until our last day, when the Coachella insanity started to roll into town. If you rent a car, it's also easy to get into the "strip" in Palm Springs (though honestly, I'd suggest sticking to the hotel), and take the aerial tramway and even take a day trip up to Joshua Tree. Everything about this trip was better than I expected and I've been recommending the Ace to everyone.

Room Tip: The rooms seem to look all the same. If I had extra to spend, I'd go for the one that has a litt...

This is a fab retro motel style hotel and swim club. Rooms are big, bathrooms also. I stayed midweek and it was fairly chilled out but apparently is a real party place at the weekend. Very hipster crowd. Fabulous setting. Would definitely recommend and will stay again.

Overall I really liked this place. Sure, there were hipsters galore, but I saw a few aging hippies as well. They did a great job fixing up the place, although some things were a little low budget, the overall vibe was cool. The food in the diner was awesome, as was the craft beer selection and cocktails. Bed was very comfy. TV... not so great, it was difficult figuring out what the channels were. Internet, for me, nonexistent. I have been in plenty of hotels with WIFI and haven't had any issues, but I could not log on with an iPad or a Macbook. The front desk, although friendly, gave a different answer every time I called to get help with the WIFI. Finally, one guy told me that they had just installed the system and they were getting the bugs worked out. Overall B+

Cool style basic rooms, not your average hotel! If you want a busy hotel atmosphere this is the place in Palm Springs. Busy pool with hot tub, Vegas pool style atmosphere with music and open until 2am! Great veggie burgers in the restaurant.

Ace is always my number one pick when I'm trying to find a hotel. I stayed at the hotel for Weekend 1 Coachella 2014 and had a pleasant stay. I stayed in a Patio room with a Fireplace which I strongly recommend - you can lay out in the sun in the privacy of your room, and at night when it gets cold you can turn on the fireplace. The bed is very comfortable and the room has everything I needed - great bathroom amenities from Rudys, vinyl player, loud sound system, strong air conditioner. The pool is definitely a scene during Coachella weekend - it still feels like you are at a hotel pool with music vs a huge pool party since they restrict entrance. Food at the restaurant is simple but well priced and really good - get the corn for sure. Overall, highly recommend Ace Palm Springs. Might not be the best hotel if you are over 35 as guests tend to be younger.

I loved it.
It's a great alternative to a standard hotel, but I'm a cheapskate and stingy with my five star ratings, so i knocked off a star for the prices, security and billing error (see the bottom of this post).
What I really want to do is give four and a half stars...

I stayed in one of their cheapest rooms on Thursday and Friday nights in January.

Price / value - Four stars
If booked through a third party like Priceline, Expedia or BookIt, it's reasonably priced (for what it is). The $25 per night "resort fee" is a little bogus for level of amenities ($15 - $20 would be more appropriate), but these bullcrap charges are kind of an industry standard so...

Design -Four stars
Re-purposed/used /industrial furnishings with a contemporary modernist bathroom. Perhaps a little bit too urban outfiter in some ways, but a very welcome change from the generic, bland version of "luxury" seen in just about every other hotel.

Food -Four stars
The restaurant food is above average, kinda whole foods meets diner in a good way (although prices are more whole foods -than diner).

Mood / service -Four stars
The general mood was comfortably casual. The service is a bit more casual than I'd prefer, but that's fine because the staff was universally cheerful and helpful. There were a few cute, well behaved dogs around the pool, which kind of added to a fun cozy feeling.

Hipsterism -Four hipsters
People who are obsessed with hating hipsters would be annoyed with 25% of the hotels guests. My policy is not to mind that they put so much effort into looking cool; it's entertaining to watch and they occasionally come up with some interesting stuff. It's so easy to take the benefits and just ignore any associated snobbery...

Hours -Five stars
I was very happy to discover that the pool and hot tub are open 'till 2AM! It was really great that I could have a late dinner, put my wife to sleep, get some work done, and then end the day with a swim and soak in the hot tub. I think the pool one of those salt water types so there is no chlorine yuckiness.

It's also great that check out is at noon.

Other
WiFi was a bit slow and could use an upgrade.

Construction of a new addition was happening by the pool. Kinda noisy but not that bad... Perhaps after the building goes up, the "resort fee" will seem more reasonable.

The TV offerings were slim but I think that might be a good thing because it encourages guests to get out and hang by the pool and bar.

Check your bill
I discovered an erroneous charge as I checked out (probably the result of carelessness at front desk) but it was fixed with a minimum of fuss.

Security
When it's hip hop DJ night they should up the security in the parking lot to keep non guests from getting too comfortable. -I don't care If 19 year old kids smoke weed or make out in a parking lot of a bar, but they should not feel free to do it in the parking lot near my hotel room door.

I stayed at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs for a long weekend wedding in March, and it was a great time, but definitely a hipster paradise - if that's your thing. It's expensive all around, but if you're able and willing to pay to feel hip, this is your place.

Having stayed at the Ace Portland (my favorite) and Ace New York, I was really excited to stay at the Ace Palm Springs to see their unique take on a desert resort. The hotel is set up as a small village, with room blocks interspersed with two pool areas, a restaurant bar, and event space. The landscaping is very unique for hotels in the area, in that it really embraces the natural vegetation and aesthetic of the desert - no lush green grass here, but instead cement and raked gravel and beautiful flowering trees. Also, communal fireplaces and strings of bulb lights are a nice touch for the evening hours.

The rooms are, as expected, very hip. It feels like staying at your cool friend's guest house, with indie art clipped on the walls, and Native American print rugs and touches. The rooms are very functional and the bed insanely comfortable, but its worth noting that the aesthetic is not one of luxury - it's the cool factor that sells people on the rooms. Everything from the in-room record players to the walking-stick available for sale to the choice of minibar snacks is curated to make you feel like a bit of an indie rock star making a stop on tour for some R&R.

It's also worth noting the rooms are small small small - unless you upgrade to a room with an outdoor space, which I did. It was really nice to have a private area to lay and read and relax away from the crowds. Highly recommended to upgrade.

The main pool area is hit or miss. During the weekend it a complete scene is awash with LA kids who drive in to lay around looking cool, but during the week it is quite relaxing and less sceney. It can be hard to get a deck chair, and hotel guests wear wristbands for entry. The DJ sets at the pool are a nice touch, when I was there it was french rock from the 60s playing, interspersed with psychadelic rock. But be warned, this is not a pool to be pampered at, and the deck chairs, pool area, etc all cater to the idea of being in-the-scene rather than being luxurious or pampering. The Parker this is not.

There is a relaxing, quiet pool on the premesis too, which is better suited to quiet reading and lounging, though the pool is more of a wading pool than anything else with a depth of around 3 - 4 feet max.

The hotel's service, unsurprisingly, is nothing to write home about. You're paying for the vibe, not the staff, who seem to be hired based on cool-factor rather than helpfulness. I had several experiences where the staff was less than useful. Housekeeping forgot to leave me towels one day, and it took two calls and a stop at the front desk to get them over an hour later. Also, having been locked out of my room, the front desk told maintenance the incorrect room number to come to, causing me to again trek back to the front desk for assistance.

All in all, I think this hotel is a great stop for a fun weekend in Palm Springs with friends. It's a cool experience all around, and feels like a party. But, it isn't as great as the Ace Portland, and it's a bit overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a room with an outdoor space for a little extra privacy and comfort.
