Helios

Hi Guys. After a lot of research i decided to stray at Helios over a short weekend stay in PS and well?,,, I kind of changed my mind at the end. The resort is really nice with a great pool area however owners although willing were not really up for it to help and I really did not like being left alone after 5pm.... On my first night I was the only guest (slow weekend with very bad weather) and it really felt bad to be left totally alone in the whole property with no one around...especially when high winds made power come down etc etc. Also cleanliness was not the best, no second pool towel provided after day one and floors in room were so very dirty....

As much as we wanted to love this place, we didn't. Our room was very run down, and the linens were not clean. The pool area is very nice, but the rest of this small resort is very run down. There is dirty indoor furniture in outside areas, and the place could use a good paint job. The Owners are nice, but leave at 5PM. After that, you are on your own. We would have like more area information, and help finding things to do.

We've been going to Palm Springs, several times a year, for quite some time now, and have stayed at a full range of gay-oriented resorts. Without a doubt, Helios is our favorite and we've now been regular guests for several years.

What makes it so special? It offers the perfect balance of clean, slightly upscale rooms, beautiful grounds, quiet privacy/serentity, helpful/very friendly hosts, and playfulness. In other words, it's not full of attitude, like some, and not sleazy, with in-your-face cruising, like some others. The age mix, generally between 30 and 50, also suits us well.

The other guests have always been very friendly and, when we check in, we always compare it to one of the Atlantis cruises, where everyone meets and greets one another on the first day and then act like old friends for the rest of the stay.

We love the casual, poolside breakfasts, the great choice of music during the day, and the fun playspaces and special parties, at night. We always have a WONDERFUL time.

AND . . . we also love that they are "pet friendly." We originally stayed here, (actually, when it was called La Posada), because they allowed dogs. Our "puppy" loves the place - he always leaps and barks when we say "Go to Palm Springs? - and the hosts make us feel very welcome with him.

Congratulations, guys, on putting together the perfect gay resort!

My partner and I heard about Helios from friends who had seen promotions at the gay rodeo in Calgary...the owners are all Canadian, friendly (and all hot looking men). We arrived late on the Saturday of the labour day long weekend and the night of one of the resorts leather parties. This was an awesome experience in itself..we don't get this type of opportunity back home. The mystery guest for the night had to back out but that was not an issue as the hosts put on a very satisfying show themselves...woof!

We spent a total of 9 days at the resort and although it was a bit slow during the week due to the off season, it was very relaxing. I thought the breakfast selection was perfect and the setting felt like a hidden paradise at times...butterflies and humming birds flying around the well kept gardens. I found the hosts friendly and helpful and the other guests were enjoyable as well. I would definitely recommend this resort to any gay travellers, especially if you are into a little adult recreation.

Stayed here for one Saturday night this past weekend. Usually you need to book a minimum 2nights on a weekend or else call the week of to see if they still have availability, but I was able to book a single weekend night ahead of time because there just happened to be the one night free in between two week-long bookings.

My husband and I were greeted and shown our queen-bedroom (room 9). It was clean and did not smell of cigarette smoke. Bed and pillows were comfortable. We were surprised by how well-sound-insulated the room was - we couldn't hear any of the music playing around the pool-area which was good. The only sore-point of the room was the bathroom, particularly the sink. The drain was extremely corroded. A 1hr-servicing and $75 for a new drain and faucet (which was equally shoddy) would have fixed that. Shower head/drain were also corroded but not quite as bad as the sink.

Pool area was nice. It seemed unusually quiet for a Saturday night, but that was fine for us as we were there to relax. The pool temperature was a bit on the cool side and could have been a few degrees warmer, but it wasn't too bad and was very clean and visually quite beautifully lit up at night.

Checkin and checkout was pretty quick and easy. Was a little surprised that none of the proprietors asked us at any point during checkout whether we had a good stay or not, especially as they are Canadians. Maybe they were having a bad day or something.

Overall we agreed that Helios would not be a bad place to return to someday, once the small renovs particularly in the bathroom are taken care of!

My partner and I booked this all male, clothing optional resort during the low season of August. It was a pleasant, quiet and relaxing holiday for us.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the very friendly staff and the three very friendly staff dogs! They gave us a tour of the premises and showed us the our room.

The room and grounds were all clean. There were some "mystery stains" on the couch in the room, but the sheets and floors were spotless. Even the indoor and outdoor playrooms were spotless.

The expanded continental breakfast was adequate, and the other guests staying there were fun and friendly.

The only negative comments I would give would be that the bathrooms and some other parts of the complex could use some updating--perhaps new floors and a good coat of paint.

A great place to stay, it was like being back in a European Villa in the middle of Palm Springs. the staff were great and the rooms each had there own theme. I highly recommend this place. and the pool was great.
