At first we hiked the commercialized walk to the waterfall, costing us an admission. After we parked at the bottom of the Canyon and hiked the vertical clime. No fees and a beautiful view of the valley. It goes on and on. If you like hiking and can't get to the nearby national park, this is the Palm Springs place to spend a day. Bring sunscreen. After all it is a desert!

Once you driven here, and viewed the delights. You'll be impressed. a must for most. Then again, once you've driven through a cannon, they are pretty much alike.

At Indian Canyons, we received a $2.50 coupon toward the $12.50 cost of hiking in Tahquitz Canyon, which is also in the Cahuilla reservation. It is a moderately strenuous hike of about 1.5 miles to a 40-foot waterfall. Fees for hiking are a reasonable tradeoff of safe parking, visitor facilities, and educational features.

What makes the experience valuable is taking a guided tour with an Indian Ranger, offered at 10, 12, and 2. Our guide Ralph told us the history of the canyon and patiently answered all our questions. We learned about the Cahuilla legend of an evil spirit (Tahquitz) who haunts the canyon and abducts young girls, about hippies who invaded the valley in the 1970s until evicted by the tribe, and details of many varieties of desert plants. This made a very interesting and educational hike.

My husband and I really emjoyed our tour guided hike through the canyon. If you are luckly to get Mike as your guide the 2 hr hike will be much longer as he shares his vast knowledge of the area, the wild live and the vegitation.

We are so glad we visited here.

The Tahquitz Canyon and Falls is about a two mile round trip. Cost is $12.50 per person. There are forest service guided trips every two hours. We went the first week in November 2013 and found it to be very educational. The trail has a 650 elevation gain. We did the guided hike and the guide was very knowledgeable of culture and history for the area. I would go again my next visit to Palm Springs. Recent forest fires caused a larger amount of run off and silt accumulation at the Falls. The Falls were not as pristine as when I first saw them in 1968.
