“Love this gem! 783362C”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

Found the Andreas on yelp under dog friendly hotels. Love this place! We got a fabulous room for $71 (weeknight, in December, with AAA discount). Place is so welcoming. We're headed back there tonight (round trip travels by car from San Jose to Tucson). Breakfast was your basic continental. Love that the pool is open 24 hours. Very clean. Very friendly. The basic room was very spacious, a lovely surprise. Location, location, location! Steps away from great shopping and dining. 783362C

PLUSES:

-- great location
-- room was clean
-- very nice staff (even though they were hard to locate them at times).
-- bed was comfortable
-- nice bathroom with whirlpool spa tub. NIce stall shower.
-- nice entrance to hotel
-- coffee, tea, fruit (apples and oranges) and candy always available
-- WiFi worked well throughout
-- convenient free parking and no resort fee

MINUSES (they were responsive in addressing of these that we brought to their attention);

-- room (Andrea suite #104) was very dark. No windows / doors in bedroom. View was to a wall. No natural light and a bit musty. I prefer a view of the spectacular mountains in PS to greet me in the morning. Awkward layout. The other three Andreas suites are on the second floor with private cabanas, a small table and chairs. Completely different atmosphere. When asked about switching the day we arrived they said people had requested the better rooms already.

-- sofabed was horrible. Thin foam over springs. You could feel every spring. Better option (for one person) is to sleep on the coach without making it into a bed. That was comfy. They were very nice and offered to switch us to a different room on the second night (were were there two nights) but we decided to stay in our room for convenience. They did give us a surprise extra 10% off the second night's stay.

-- Annoying music (commercial station) played all day in common areas. Had to listen to a lot of commercials. Either cut out the music or play soft jazz / classical or something else...softly. No reason to use commercial radios with all of the great Internet options available. Sort of spoils the atmosphere they are trying to create.

-- Some annoyances in room: Kept hearing beeping until we figured out it was the microwave. Just unplugged it. Room got a bit warm and you can't set the thermostat below 70, but turning on fans did help. Seems like clock radios were left over the the 1980s.

-- Breakfast very basic.

-- Lounge / breakfast area was nice, but there were only two easy chairs. The rest of the seating was high tables with bar chairs.

-- Toilets very loud. You can even hear the one next door flush.

CONCLUSION:

Chose this hotel because they were one of the only boutique hotels that had reasonably priced suites (we wanted two separate sleeping areas) and didn't slam you with a resort fee.

Room Tip: Don't consider 104 if you don't like dark rooms and want any kind of a view. Besides hotel s...

We chose this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. In fact, our expectations were exceeded. The location between Indian Canyon and Palm Canyon roads right in the middle of the old town restaurant and shopping area is superb. And yet, it was so quiet. Our queen room was on the main level on the east (Indian Canyon) side, so that the noisier Palm Canyon street noise was not at all apparent. The hot tub and pool were well maintained, and the breakfast was very adequate. The staff were excellent, especially in helping us to choose among the many restaurants available within a few blocks in either direction. We will definitely return. As we exited on the Thursday evening heading out to yet another restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised to be right in the center of the weekly street market.

Couldn't have been a better value for the location. Short walk to all my favorite places. Great gas fireplace tucked into the corner of the bedroom. It will be my first choice on any future stays downtown.

The staff are amazing; the hotel is super clean! The pool area has bar service, towel service, and a lovely amount of sun. We had the room they internally call the "honeymoon suite". What a treat! There was a little street noise but not enough to deter from the pleasant nature of the stay.

Room Tip: If you don't want road noise say so upon booking.
