“A Pleasant PS Surprise”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

I don't go to Palm Springs for the food, and never expect much when I do dine out, so I was pleasantly surprised when I ate dinner at Johannes. Their specialty, the wiener schnitzel (veal or chicken), is very well prepared, comes to the table very hot, and proves that while the Germans may not be known for their cuisine, they do excel in a few classic dishes that Johannes has perfected for modern tastes. The food isn't limited to German specialties; the Thai curried shrimp was quite well executed there are an assortment of other more international dishes. An off the menu Brussels sprout salad was very well executed and wonderfully balanced with just the right ingredients and dressing. The cocktails are well mixed and pretty generous. Dessert was a bit of a disappointment; the apple strudel, while advertised as "The Best Ever", really isn't so, but certainly wasn't bad. Johannes isn't inexpensive for sure, but given the other choices in town for the same quality of food, it is one of the better values in Palm Springs.

The wait staff was attentive and nice and seems to be well versed in dealing with a clientele that demands attention....namely well preserved, rich senior citizens and moneyed gays. The people watching is a hoot, so settle back, have a couple drinks and enjoy the party.

“Kangaroo anyone”
Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

I was super confused by what this restaurant was prior to eating here. The Internet said it was European, the sign out from says cosmopolitan dining and some app called it Australian. Perhaps it is all these things. We had nice martinis to start and some various salads. The beet salad was good. On to the mains we enjoyed the kangaroo and the wiener schnitzel - tasty! How often does one get to enjoy kangaroo?
