We dinned here over the weekend and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was lovely being seated outside by the pool especially with the lovely warm outside temp. The only bad part of the evening was choosing what to eat as we found the menu to be fantastic and reasonably priced. We ended up sharing a starter as well as our main meal which was the lamb (highly recommend it!) and had a salad each. This was plenty of food for the two of us which is exactly what the server had suggested.

We booked a table through Open Table kind of last minute and so were only offered early or late seating times… we did notice that there were a lot of open tables when we left after our early seating so I’d say it would be worth calling the restaurant directly if you want a different time than what is offered on Opentable.com

I really want to give this restaurant a better review, but there were just too many small flaws which, in aggregate, are simply not acceptable for a restaurant of this type. We had looked forward to this visit since we heard of the restaurant last year, so had high expectations...

The positives:
- the location is great
- the ambience of dining outside by the pool is one of the best in Palm Springs
- three of four dinner dishes were top notch (heirloom tomato salad, roast chicken and beef filet - though more on the filet later...)
- friendly staff

The not-so-positives:
- for two of us, we ordered two apps and two entrees (pretty standard, you'd think); the waiter, who took our order, brought only one app and asked if "we wanted a plate to share". Clearly he had forgotten that we ordered two apps.
- Caesar salad was way overdressed
- entrees came, but we did not have cutlery
- Americano coffees after dinner were tepid; needed to have them re-done
- waiter was friendly, but too inexperienced. He probably fits in a lot better for the daytime service, but for finer evening dining, really need someone with more experience and polish
- poor communication with the kitchen. The beef filet we ordered was a replacement for the rib eye on the menu. We were advised of this up front, which was fine, and actually led to the decision to order this as a main. The table behind us did the same thing, but after completing their apps, we're advised that in fact the filet was now out, and they would be receiving a strip loin instead. All of this too late to change the order without delaying everyone's meals.

In isolation, any one of these issues would not be enough to cause me to drop a rating from 5 stars; any two might cause me to rate 4. However, the nature of all of these issues - each easily avoidable - cannot be excused in a restaurant that strives for this higher calibre.

The Viceroy Hotel's restaurant sits in this historic hotel in Palm Springs. We had not been there for over five years so looked forward to what we remembered as "the best". Our reservation made one week, in person, before was not on their books. Our wait to order cocktails was over 10 minutes and the cocktails came 30 minutes later. One cocktail, a standare martini, came 10 minutes after the other 5 cocktails. Another 30 minutes passed before dinner orders were taken. When dinner was served (excellent food) a glass of wine for each of the six of us was ordered. The wine came after we completed our meals. Several times we complained to the server and management getting only "We are sorry". The final bill was 20 % higher than comparable restaurants. Note: we eat out at least 3 X per week.

To Victoria

Three of us had dinner here in the gorgeous room adjacent to the bar...all white, cozy and ethereal...beautifully lit.
The menu was not extensive but the choices were diverse, creative and inspiring. My quinoa, grapefruit, feta salad was outstanding and my Seafood s
Salad with lemongrass dressing sent me over the moon it was so delicious. My husband was perfectly happy with his choice of Caesar salad and crabcakes, but there are heartier things on the menu as well - especially in the entree section (we three limited our selection to starters and salads.)
If you want to sit poolside, be sure to request it when making your reservation as it fills up quickly.

The Viceroy acquired a new chef mid-2012 and he is outstanding! The food has always been great but he has definitely stepped it up a notch. With the beautiful surroundings, this is definitely a restaurant worth visiting.
