We have now visited and dined at all three of North Palm Canyon Drive's most eclectic and creature friendly dining spots, the wonderful Jiao. The three under one umbrella ownership that includes Birba and Cheeky's has a simple idea at Jiao's, Asian cornucopia. We had dim sum, mee-krob, dumplings, curried porc. All was reasonable, it's run brasserie-style from 11 a.m. 'til late night closing. Not a rip-off and tourista pit. The design, especially outdoor/street-front patio, is simple-lined and understated. Our beagle was a welcome guest as he's been at Birba and Cheeky's. We'll be back.

We came here to for lunch on Friday and we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the imperial vegetarian rolls, mizuna salad and spicy spicy spicy beef. We loved everything we ordered. Everything seemed light, healthy and great flavors. Will be back again.

Revisited Jiao to try the dim sum menu. As always, we found the food to be excellent with interesting choices. As others have noted, we had to ask what some items were and the server told us that the menu changes weekly so they, too, have to keep up. But the explanations were good. We have always found the staff friendly and helpful. They accommodated request for things served on the side, and whatnot. Our 2 dogs were welcomed and each given a bowl of water with refills! We had ginger and scallion noodles, steamed shrimp dumplings and a mushroom/cucumber dish that we thought would be a dumpling but was served in a folded manner, like a flatbread. All very tasty. I dithered about dessert so the waitress suggested just a half serving of homemade mango ice cream. The perfect solution!
The outdoor venue is steadily improving with plantings and water feature. They will be expanding indoor seating as well

Palm Springs is a foodie town, with new restaurants popping up everywhere. Jiao is located in the now-fasionable Uptown District, housed in a delightful Spanish courtyard building that's also one of city residents' most popular hangs. The restaurant's got a good pedigree: its owners also operate Cheeky's and Birba, both located just up the street. Fortunately, the food lives up to the trendy atmosphere. The butternut squash soup is a savory Asian take on a popular southwestern dish, while the miso black cod is simply to die for: flaky and melt-in-you-mouth good. The black-teed servers can appear a bit officious, but they're attentive. Seating is mostly outside, so pick a pleasant day for al fresco dining -- and some Palm Springs people-watching.
