Calla Lily Hotel
Ranked #14 of 22 Palm Springs B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 26, 2007

This is truly a paradise! A positive experience from the first call to book the room until the day we left (reluctantly). The owners are truly special people who make you feel right at home. The property is immaculate and charming. The rooms are perfect and cozy and very comfortable. Robes are provided along with big towels for the pool area. There are coffee pots in the room and refrigerators with water chilled for you. There are extras such as fresh picked fruit, fresh baked cookies and a nightly gift of a liquor or congac and chocolates. There is nothing left to wish for except to stay longer!
The location is great and within walking distance to most everything. If you do have a car, there is plenty of parking right on the street next to the inn. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back one day. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Palm Springs!

Great place to stay right in the art of Palm Springs. From the placing of the reservation, to check in to the room itself the experience was wonderful. Courteous personal made you feel welcome the moment you stepped onto the property.
Room ( 1 bedroom suite) was beautiful. Beautiful tile floors, very nice and comfortable furniture, nice amenities like wine glasses, wine opener, refrigerator with bottled water, robes, etc.
Early evening brought cognac and some beautiful cordial glasses while you sat and looked onto pool area with candles lit all around.

My wife and I just returned from a three day stay in Palm Springs at the Calla Lilly. We were very pleased with our experience and would strongly suggest that you check this place out if you are planning on going for a visit.

Positives:
The Inn was immaculate. Both the room itself and the garden/pool area glowed. Obviously the owners (who are on site) take pride in their business.

The location was ideal. The Inn was a short walk from a wide variety of wonderful places to eat--everything from a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to some of the most sophisticated restaurants in the Cochella Valley (more on this later).

Personal touches: The cordial service and freshly baked cookies were lovely.

The price was very reasonable for what we got. We stayed in one of the King Suites and found that there was more space than we could have ever used!

The staff and owners really welcomed us and made us feel right at home. I feel that they all went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed to have a wonderful weekend away.

Negatives:
This is not really a negative, but more a reality check--the property is not (nor does is try to be) a 5 star resort. There are no flat screen TV's and the wicker decor is quaint. If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons, you should not stay here.

Misc:
As the highlight of any vacation is eating, wewanted to share the name of a wonderful restaurant nearby that had come highly recommended: Spencer's.

It was a 10 minute walk from the Inn and we had a magnificent dinner. This was not cheap ($200 for two for four courses and drinks) but it was easily the hightlight of the trip. I would stronly encourage you to at least consider this option for dinner.

My wife and I stayed at the B&B in October 2006 for three nights. The place is great, extremely clean and wonderfully furnished. Charlotte and Rod Callahan, the owners are just wonderful. They are on-site and take a personal interest in everything. The location is also great. You can walk right into downtown Palm Springs. There are only 10 rooms, so book early!

Can't understand why this place is getting 5 stars?

Firstly when we arrived, we should have been given a King Suite but were given the one with a kitchenette instead as that had been given to someone else. Not sure what the difference would have been.

The pool area itself is pretty, secluded and our room had a lovely outlook towards the hills and palm trees. I think the Calla Lily is playing on the attractiveness of the pool area. The room we had was awful!!

It was really musty smelling, dark and the so-called kitchenette area consisted of a fridge and stove in the hallway. We were told to keep the cupboard door open as the air conditioning outlet was inside the cupboard. There was absolutely no work surfaces anywhere, so if you wanted to make food there was nowhere to prepare it, not even somewhere to stand the coffee maker! (It was in a cupboard when we arrived).

The bathroom although clean, was dark, dank and dated. The walls were painted in dark beige with yellow tiles that looked like the original 1950's tiles, again there was no storage at all. We had to keep all our toiletries etc in a hanging shoe rack in the wardrobe.

Overall, great pool, horrible room and no we wouldn't go there again.

The Calla Lily Inn is a perfect place to stay for discerning travelers who want privacy and a small, charming inn experience.

The owners are on site and always available in person or by cell phone. The rooms are spotless and beautifully decorated. The location is one block from town so you can leave your car behind and still have access to great restaurants.

All the rooms face the pool and there are plenty of tables and chaises with shade umbrellas if needed. Lovely landscaping and water fountains round out the relaxing experience.

The gate to the pool area and rooms locks in the early evening so only those with keys can enter after hours unless they notify the owners. For those traveling alone, this is a nice feature which ensures privacy.

In the evenings, they serve a complimentary cordial and chocolate.

For those looking to relax in a lovely environment, this IS the place to go. What more can I say, we loved it and will definitely return.

We called up for a room on Fourth of July weekend completely on a whim. Not only was the owner Charolotte accomodating and sweet but when we arrived she'd upgraded us to a suite at the standard room price! Fantastic!

Our beutiful little room was steps from the pool (they all are actually) and as we were unpacking our bathing suits Charolotte was putting fresh baked cookies out poolside for the guests. We spent 2 solid days by the pool - which was quiet and relaxing, with softly piped jazz and piano music floating around.

When we came back from dinner we'd found that our turn-down service included cordials and chocholates. The first night we got congac, but since we didn't drink it the next day we were given caramel liquer instead!

The pool was the perfect temperature for day or night swimming and it never closed! They only ask that you're 'respectful' of the hour so a nice quiet midnight swim or soak in the jacuzzi is acceptable. Plus, the entire pool terrance is candle and lantern lit at night so it was perfect for lying out under the stars and taking a nice warm nap.

The day of departure they also had no problem letting us stay by the pool a few hours after we'd checked out and we really got the feeling that everyone there becomes a regular! I hope to go back next month!
