“The Calla Lily was everything its Frommer's review suggests!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2007

We wanted to stay in a small, charming inn near old Palm Springs. The Calla Lily proved the perfect choice. We felt it definitely deserved its recent Frommer's rating as one of the 50 best small budget inns in the world. Our airy and immaculate room had a sitting area, and opened onto the courtyard with lovely landscaping and a crystalline pool and spa set against a backdrop of beautiful mountains. Restaurants and shopping for all tastes were within easy walking distance, as was our favorite riding stable (Smoke Tree). The owners were helpful and kind, and we met a number of interesting guests from other countries during our stay. Everything is as presented on the Calla Lily web site - absolutely delightful! The inn is an outstanding value. We have praised it highly to friends who travel, but perhaps we should guard word of its existence more closely lest it become TOO popular and busy to accommodate us next time we visit Palm Springs.

  • Liked — We loved the Calla Lily's charm, view, and convenience to fine dining and shopping.
  • Disliked — We had no complaints.

We have stayed at the Calla Lily three times over the past year or so, and agree with all the positive reviews of it. Just an FYI for everyone -- the previous owners, Rod and Charlotte, sold the property in June 2007. We just stayed there with the new owner, and found things to be less consistent. It wasn't a bad stay, but the cookies mentioned in other reviews are no more, the evening cordial only arrived one night out of three, and we only got a newspaper one morning out of three. It could just be that the new owner is working out the kinks. It's still a beautiful property and a great location, and it's very likely that we wouldn't have noticed the changes if we hadn't stayed there so often in the past. Just be aware that it is under new management.

Date of stay 5/2-07 - 5/07/07.
The Cala Lilly Inn has a wondeful location, with acomodations that are immaculate. However it seems that the Inn Keepers need to keep up on fdixing problems s they occur, instead of wauting for several to accrue before calling in a repairman. We stayed in King uite #6. The hot water pipes sounded like a jack hammer and the bathroom sink drain was very slow. A plumber was called the following morning, I was in the room when he was fixing the problem and it was than that the inn Keeper indicated that he was aware of both problems. That was strike one. Strike two was the general alloofness of the Inn Keepers. They waer cordial, but kept you at "arms length". There was no genuine warmth felt. Finally Strike three was when one of the Inn Keepers (Rod), presented himself out the door to the owner's suite, and chastised sebveral gurests for beingtoo noisy at 10:10 PM. He then turned and slammed the door!

The evening cordial service was a nice touch. and as I said the grounds were immaculate. However I felt as if I were staying at a boarding school, with a head master. Had the Inn Keepers been more genuinely personable, my review and rating woudl have been much higher. However I expect to feel as iff the owners of an Inn actualy want guests to come and stay There wwree far too many rules and caveats. My advise is this. If you want a great location, and absolute silence when you are at your hotel/inn, then the Cala Lilly Inn is for you. However if you want to be able to breathe outside after 10 PM. Stay elsewhere,

  • Liked — The location.
  • Disliked — Inn Keepers that were superficially friendly.

We stayed 5 nights at the Calla Lily Inn & had a very relaxing vacation! The details the owners provide really made a difference. The outdoor hot tub was wonderful in the cool nights and so was the bedtime cordial & chocolate. There was also milk & cookies late afternoon (which really picked us up after a long day of golf!) We'll go back!

  • Liked — attention to detail
  • Disliked — at times you could hear others in the next room pretty clearly

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Calla Lily in Palm Springs and we enjoyed it immensely. The Inn is very close to all amenities. The setting was lovely, the units pretty and very comfortable, and the host and hostess could not have been nicer. There was a very nice pool, sauna, fresh baked cookies daily, grapefruit from their trees, etc. what a treat!

This is truly a paradise! A positive experience from the first call to book the room until the day we left (reluctantly). The owners are truly special people who make you feel right at home. The property is immaculate and charming. The rooms are perfect and cozy and very comfortable. Robes are provided along with big towels for the pool area. There are coffee pots in the room and refrigerators with water chilled for you. There are extras such as fresh picked fruit, fresh baked cookies and a nightly gift of a liquor or congac and chocolates. There is nothing left to wish for except to stay longer!
The location is great and within walking distance to most everything. If you do have a car, there is plenty of parking right on the street next to the inn. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back one day. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Palm Springs!

Great place to stay right in the art of Palm Springs. From the placing of the reservation, to check in to the room itself the experience was wonderful. Courteous personal made you feel welcome the moment you stepped onto the property.
Room ( 1 bedroom suite) was beautiful. Beautiful tile floors, very nice and comfortable furniture, nice amenities like wine glasses, wine opener, refrigerator with bottled water, robes, etc.
Early evening brought cognac and some beautiful cordial glasses while you sat and looked onto pool area with candles lit all around.
