My partner and i have stayed at the 'originally' named Peppertree on numerous occassions. We have NEVER had a problem with this hotel until the 'new' owners took over.
We booked (as we do most years) in March 2011, for our annual holiday in Palm Springs in September....which we received confirmation. We then recieved an additional confirmation in July 2011.......... TWO WEEKS before our arrival, the hotel sent an email :::

I am sorry to inform you that during the remodeling process and the move to
our new front office our computer took your reservation when we did not have
any rooms available September 17 I apologize deeply for this and please
call us so we can assist you with some recommendations, ther is a website
call smallhotelsofpalms springs.com that show all the similar hotels in this
area . Since I won't have a room for you until SEPTEMBER 18, 2011
Regards
Alberto

We rang the hotel immediately and was told, by a rather 'rude' lady to go on the Small Hotels of Palm Springs website!!!.....they did not even offer an alternative....or even had the decency to enquire on our behalf. After all, the hotel was at fault NO US!

The lady also stated that a wedding party had booked the whole hotel for the first night....and YET, when we checked their wesbite they were still showing availablity on a number of rooms!!

The only conclusion that we summise is that the hotel has a PROBLEM with SAME SEX COUPLES.....we have NEVER had this kind of experience in Palm Springs EVER!

We invite the new management to comment on this review.

Nice grounds, nice salt water pool, decent hot tub, landscaped nicely, with new additions daily. Good location with proximity to downtown Palm Springs. Friendly, helpful staff. Then there are the rooms. The rooms are painted a stark white color. They lack any sense of contrast. A bit of wood trim would go a long way, as would some decent wall hangings. I would not describe the rooms as warm and inviting, chic perhaps, but less than comfortable. We stayed in a mountain view deluxe and a poolside king deluxe. Mountain view is a large carpeted room, with a walk in shower in the bathroom. Pretty quiet. It is on the second floor, away from the pool. The furnishings are like something you see in a magazine, aesthetically pleasing to some (not me), but totally impractical. The small desk is not usable since the refrigerator is under it, thus nowhere to put your legs. The desk chairs are stiff and uncomfortable. The tv's (big flat panels) are only visible from the bed since they are wall mounted. The poolside king deluxe felt devoid of character. The walls, ceiling, and floor are all painted white. There is a jacuzzi in the corner, a nice feature, but not well integrated into the flow of the room. A slightly better desk, again with the refrigerator under it, but only one chair. A spartan couch of sorts, but no table to even place a drink on. The shower was extremely small, causing one to hit your knees or elbows on the sides. Don't drop the soap, or you risk hitting your head. The sink has virtually no area for toileltries and there is no table for this purpose in the room. Only one washcloth was provided. Neither room had an ice bucket. The wifi is inconsistent. It is an old building, so you will sometimes hear the water pipes groaning in the walls from other rooms. The beds are quite comfortable. The pillows, while huge, are hard. The "continental breakfast" consists of some overly sweet coffee cake, a few berries, and coffee (no de-caf). Don't bother. There is a Koffi outlet nearby with a great area in back (parklike setting), for a relaxed way to start the day, good coffee, muffins, etc. I must add that this place is obviously going through a transition and it may take some time to find its direction. Decent value for the price. I hope that they can add a few homey touches to offset the stark impression presented by the all the white motif, and the modern furnishings.it seems to be in an identity crisis. Is it the Pepper Tree, or the Alcazar?
