“Excellent hiking”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We had a nice short hike up here. The views were okay but I liked the forest hike better. The worst part was the hike back up to the tram!

“Best attraction in town.”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

It,s amazing when you travel from the heat of the dessert to the freshness of San Jacinto in just a15 minutes trip. There is small routes to make from just 1,5 miles, but my favourite is the 12 miles trail around the park. You have to take the first tramway in the morning if you want to do it because it takes about 8 hours to do it, but it es wonderful.

“A few notes on hiking”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

There are several hiking-specific websites with detailed descriptions of the 11-mile (round trip) hike to the peak of Mt. San Jacinto, this is more for general consumption. We took the first tram up to hike the freshly snow-covered mountain in the beginning of October 2013. The altitude (8,000-10,500 ft) makes the relatively easy-moderate hike much more challenging. We were adequately prepared for the temperature and the 6 hr hike but the snow made following the trail extremely challenging for us as novice hikers without a GPS. Given the snow, we (and a few others) followed a more experienced hiker (he had hiked the trail before) who accidentally led us off trail but nonetheless to a ridge above the clouds (what we deemed was an adequate summit for the day) and then we followed our tracks back out. The worst part of the hike was the struggle from the Ranger's Station back up to the tram. Whew!

Novice and causal hikers should proceed carefully. Mostly, be prepared for a slow hike, rest more than you think you need to, and know when to call it a day. It can be a challenging trail to follow in AND out. Most of the other hikers that we encountered did not make it to the summit (not even our faux summit), opting to turn around because of time, altitude, weather, or daylight. There are few signs, some cairns, and some flags marking the trail.

“Beautiful Break”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Lovely break from the Palm Springs heat. Actually quite cool up there. Bring coats. It was such a nice surprise to see evergreens and camps sites in the middle of a Palm Springs trip

“Review of San Jacinto Mountain in Palm Springs, Ca.”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Service & food in the restaurant were both so bad I summoned the facility manager to complain. The trip up & down the mountain were both good. Excellent view from the tram.
