A hike on San Jacinto is perhaps the nicest way to get back to nature after funky Palm Springs. We hopped on the impressive tram and enjoyed the view of the Coachella Valley. The tram rotates during the 10 minute ride to provide both a bird's eye view of the mountain geology and the valley view. The fee for the tram is reasonable and they discount children and seniors. It snowed the night before and our hike around the easy and lovely Desert View trail included the scent of Jeffrey pines, expansive views of the valley, and beautiful views of the mountain area. The ramp down is steep but paved and the trail is mostly flat.

We enjoyed the sunset from both the restaurant and bar and returned on the late tram on time to see the moon come up over the lights in the valley. Wonderful day - highly recommended if you love nature.

If you get a chance to visit San Jacinto Mtn while in Southern California, then do so.
There is great hiking trails that span from very moderate to very challenging.
The Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountain Info Centre on HWY 74 is a wealth of information regarding the wild life, flora and geography. The San Andres fault line goes right through this area.
San Jacinto is a 'young' mountain range that continues to "grow" every year.
Enjoy your visit and please remember to follow the rules of using nature...don't disturb, don't litter, be prepared for any weather. Have fun.

Absolutely beautiful! Lots of trees. Lots of Gorgeous Views! Nice places to walk and hike. Plenty of snow! One of those places where you can play in the snow and swim in an outdoor pool afterwards and not freeze!

We love the trip up to this beautiful mountain park, the tram is
always a fun ride.
The views from the top are nothing short of spectacular, the
mountain is very steep sides so the views down into the valley
are like looking down from an 8500 ft sky scraper.
The day we were there, there was still a considerable amount
of snow on the ground but the sun was out and the temp
was perfect for hiking and looking around and even with a big
crowd we were able to find some quiet places to enjoy the
views and the feeling of being alone in nature.
