This is a beautiful walk in a special place. The trail is flat and easy and truly helps one understand how precious water is. We headed to the Palm Springs Tram and our grandson didn't like the way it looked. Afraid that he'd get sick on the ride, we left and went to the visitor center at the bottom of the hill. There we were given three options for a "nice hike".We choose Coachella Valley Preserve which is free and contains lots of palms...not sure if there are really 1000. We spent about one hour on the McCallum trail which was a loop and included a lake! with a coot. Along the trail, we passed special lizards who only live in this preserve. Everyone agreed, this place was unique.

We needed a break on a long day of driving and this was it. Less than 15 minutes off the freeway, hike through dense palms amid water and desert. Very funky.

Great place to get acclimated to desert hiking. Fairly easy hikes with good opportunity to see wildlife. This week they've seen mountain lions, bobcats and lots of varieties of lizards,

Today we only saw lizards; three species and the largest about 10 inches long.

We come here every year and never regret it.

If you have done all the Indian canyons then move on to this hike otherwise go and do the Indian canyon hikes in Palm Springs they are much more interesting and varied. This area is interesting but there really isn't to much to see if it is convenient to your location then great but don't go out of your way.

Well, almost flat. Oasis palm groves, a historic cabin, a fault line, several trails, a picnic area, interesting scenery and geography. A good morning's walk.
