“VERY cool and free!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

Had a wild hair on a recent trip to Palm Springs in June and decided to show an out of town guest the palm oasis at the preserve. I lived in the Valley for 18 months a couple of years back and passed by several times but never stopped. Turns out, I had been missing out on a very cool and free attraction. It was 105 the afternoon we stopped and I was wondering what I was doing getting out of the car...which was the only one in the parking lot! In the middle of sand and desert scrub, this palm oasis is very dense and has a running stream. Lots of interesting plants and small critters and much of the oasis is traversed on raised wooden boardwalks.
The shade was nice and cooling. Highly suggested as an attraction for visitors to the valley...only requires an hour or two to see a truly unique natural wonder.

“The Desert's Best Kept Secret”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

I go here often...Leaving the dusty parking lot, you follow a gently downward path and arrive in the middle of an Oasis. It's a Palm Oasis and you can walk a simple 1/2 mile trail thru the palms on a boardwalk, or venture a bit further (you have many choices), at least over to the big Palm Oasis where there is always water....you may see wildlife.

“A great hiking experience...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2012

This is a wonderful desert hike spotted by variety of palm oasis, a pond and a nice desert trail. Some of the trail is sandy but easily navagatable.. The highlights are all within about a mile of the visitors center so most ages of family could manage. We chose to go a further distance to moon country trail so the hike took us about 2 hours to go about 5.5 miles. A lot of the further trail is river wash. Mild daytime temp. 74f and cool breeze made it very comfortable, though I would probably not attempt the longer hike option during time of year when temps are hot.. Tip: Bring lots of water and hat. Picnic tables in shade at visitos center. The palm oasis are great photo op.

“Great Family Desert Outing and Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2012

Coachella Valley Preserve is a wonderful place for Grandparents, Parents and the children to join together and enjoy an outing in the desert.

Ranger Dani Ortiz made Palm Trees, Desert Plants, Owls, Bats [a species that she is writing her thesis] and even scorpions become exciting finds on a wonderful sunset to darkness two mile walk.
