Park the car and head up the wash...soon you'll be craning your neck to view the top of the canyon walls that get taller and more narrow as you go. If your adventurous, head into "Ladder Canyon" and go to where few are.

This was a great hike. The canyons were beautiful. It is a long dirt road to get there and there is not much around. There was a lot of broken glass in the parking lot so don't leave valuables in your vehicle. The hike has deep sand and gets hot very quickly. Bring lots of water. The trail is marked with rocks on the ground in the shape of arrows and no other signs so it can be difficult to find the ladder trail. The ladders are placed by hikers so the conditions can be questionable so use good judgement. There are also bees in a few places but they won't bother you if you don't bother them. If you are up for a beautiful, moderately challenging hike this is a great place. Bring your camera.

go early, I arrived at 8:00 and hiked completely alone! Head down the main river bed and after about 2 miles take a right up a metal ladder. Just keep hiking back through the canyon! It's one of the most stunning hikes I've ever done. Oh yeah... there are bees! They won't harm or come after you but there is a nest right in the middle of one of the trails right at the top of a metal ladder. Just be quite, take your time getting around it and you won't have any trouble. Well worth the 1 hour trip from the Warm Sands area.

as you peer around you begin to see the history of time unknown in the layers of variety of textures and colours in the ragged sand canyon walls surrounding you, depending on your path you can with little effort find evidence of the infamous sn. andreas fault, etc.
