Having this been my fifth return visit to the Del Marcos, I have to say that this "Wild Bill" Cody establishment surely improves with age. A fresh coat of paint on the exterior and many rooms added spice to the old gal. Spent a few nights in the Johnny Costa followed by inhabiting the "Oceans Eleven'" my new favorite with it's high ceiling, second bedroom and hidden storage closets. A new staff is on board including the most helpful and gracious Laura. Service is key here and I like the addition of events, such as the opening of the "Donald Wexler room" with Mr. Wexler present for the ribbon cutting. Also it was the weekend of the Academy Awards in which we were served champagne and fresh popcorn by the pool. So for a getaway to the California sun in a midcentury environment, choose the Del Marcos. I know that I will return...

My wife and I really liked this place. It was in a great location close to downtown Palm Springs and several good restaurants. I loved the pool and the fire burning at night in the back. A good place for sophisticated travelers who appreciate the design elements. Our room was fine if somewhat spartan. Not a place to pamper yourself but very neat and clean. The TV was really far back from the bed though and we had to request another lamp because the room was rather dark. Also a great places for pets! Great pet policy.

A few wrinkles: I didn't like how they had a guy with a loud leafblower out there in the early afternoon bothering all the guests by the pool. That was silly. And there's not a good way to get luggage to your room - all they have is a rickety old baggage carriage.

But other than that, I loved the adult atmosphere and being around a crowd that appreciated modernism and design. But the Four Season's for customer service, it's not.

Looking not only to see mid-century architecture, but wanted to experience it and the Del Marcos delivers. Though the young man who checked us in at night must have given dinner recommendations a million times, his enthusiasm to share his finds was as if it was the first time to us. The staff couldn't have been nicer, more helpful, happy to be there, and it showed. It makes all the difference. Stayed in Hope and Crosby with wonderful view of mountains the first night, then moved into the Esquival Suite the next. Both perfect in their own ways. Coming home from dinner (loved being able to walk everywhere- great location!), only to watch the Grammys outside next to the pool, under the stars, on the comfy loungers. This is the way to watch TV if you must. If you're looking for character over cookie cutter try the Del Marcos. And make sure to stop by the Visitors Center to get self drive tour of houses.

Spent two nights here to celebrate our anniversary. Decorations are 50ish throughout making for a unique and different setting. Room was huge with separate living and sleeping areas plus an enclosed patio. Enjoyed the pool area which had plenty of lounges and umbrellas for those preferring them. It is within walking distance of the main tourist area of Palm Springs, which was a real positive. We walked over from the hotel for dinner, music, and shopping. Room and pool area were well maintained and clean. Service and staff were very helpful.

Alot of chipped paint, stained grout lines. Not in the top of places to stay in PS. Service was spotty and/or inexperienced. Good location however, but other places within shouting distance provide a cushier stay.

Dear Scapegoat512B,

Your review states you stayed with us at The Del Marcos Hotel in July 2011.
Let me share some wonderful news regarding your review.
In July 2011, I became the new GM of the hotel and in the past 8 months, many wonderful changes have taken place here at our hotel.
I have worked hard finding the right staff and have implemented new housekeeping policies and policies regarding guest service. In August 2011, a month after your stay, the hotel was closed for approx 1 month for major upgrades. New windows, doors, window treatments, patio furnishings, linens, paint, many things you'll never see and a new shiny sign! The Del Marcos Hotel built in 1947 will always be a work in progress, but we are extremely proud of how far we've come in the past 8 months and are currently up for Class 1 Historic Recognition. Many of our other reviews confirm the great things happening at the Del Marcos Hotel.
I welcome you to stop by next time you are in Palm Springs and I'd be happy to personally show you around.

Sincerely,
Laura Ramstead

Dropped by the Visitors Centre as I was entering Palm Springs. They offered a number of accommodation specials, one of which was the Del Marcos. As I drove for a look-see, I noticed how close this place was to downtown and all amenities, so I checked in at the preferred rate as offered by the Visitors Centre (less than half price!). The whole place has a fifties feel about it (opened in 1947) with rooms centred around a very nice looking pool (85 degrees). Lots of loungers around so no fights for position A. Room was clean and comfortable with good air con and toiletries. Flooring was painted concrete (I think that’s what it was) but no big deal, although carpeting would have been my preferred option. There are bikes on the property to use at no cost, plus a complimentary light breakfast. The owners seem to have thought of everything. If you are looking for a place to stay in central Palm Springs, this is it. A world away from the Hilton’s and Marriotts of the world, and perhaps that’s what makes this place a little special. Would certainly stay here again if ever in Palm Springs.

Great for a small group, or a romatic get away. The staff is friendly, and the continental breakfast is perfect way to start the day at the pool. The mountain and the palm trees are nice backdrop at the pool.

The weather the first week of Feb, was a warm and sunny contrast to the snow back in CO.
