“loved this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

it's cozy, easy to reach, unique and very fun! The pool is great, the bar and the drinks were fabulous (happy hour lasted 2 hours ;)), the rooms very lovely. The bathrooms were small, but had everything one needs.

One of the best things to do in the evening is sitting by the fire and chatting with other guests.

A great place!

situated in the heart of palm springs, the movie colony hotel was a great find and a cozy getaway the manager, juana, was a most charming, knowledgeable young lady. the hotel features a variety of rooms and ours was comfortable with a well laid out plan, privacy included. there is a happy hour from 5 p.m. where you can mingle with other guests or be on your own. also available for the use of guests are bikes which you can ride through the really quiet neighborhood of the movie colony. a very satisfactory stay. enjoyed it very much. laurence acosta

Room Tip: ask for room 16, privacy plus a quality room

This was our first trip to Palm Springs and we stayed at the Movie Colony Hotel. This hotel has a somehwat retro feel to it. Charming decor and overall atmosphere in the rooms and outside. The complimentary continental breakfast and cocktail hour added a nice touch. We were able to meet some of the other people staying at the hotel. We took the pedal bikes out for a ride around the area which was very handy.

Room Tip: All rooms appeared to be in good locations with the size of the hotel - 16 rooms. There was a bit of...

At the tail end of a recent business trip, my husband joined me and we decided to try out this vintage hotel for a night. We were so glad we did! Unlike my business class hotel, which was nice but overrun with children, the Movie Colony was incredibly peaceful and friendly. The staff was great--they work a limited schedule--and the other guests were friendly during the complementary brunch (e.g., croissants, bagels, yogurt, french press coffee, etc.). We also loved our room and large terrace facing some lovely trees at the back of the property. The room had a fun, mid-century vibe, which was refreshing considering the age of the hotel.

The only drawbacks at all were the lack of a bath tub (not surprising considering the 1930's architecture), figuring out how to get the AC to work well while being less noisy (another mid-century issue), and the stain on our couch that one of the previous guests obviously left. Having the stain cleaned up is the only drawback I'd really like to see changed.

I'm definitely staying here again on my upcoming business trip.

Stayed 4 nights at Movie Colony and had a good time: Excellent value for money with free parking and complementary breakfast (from 08.30 - 10.30) + wifi, very comfortable beds and nice atmosphere. The pool itself is not very large and the space for the sun beds somewhat limited, and you better like the "evergreen" music (think Sinatra, Beatles, Elvis) that is played as background music throughout the day.

The reception staff very friendly and the happy hour (from 17.30 - 18.30) was a nice touch.

The room (14) was large and comfortable, but beware of creaking noises from the upstairs room whenever anyone is walking around (it may be large to the rather large gentleman staying there, but think it was a general problem).

Location is good but not great, as it is a 10-15 minutes walk to get to the abundance of restaurants that can be found in Palm Springs. Not a problem in March/April, but could imagine that it would be unbearable in summer, so car definitely needed.

Room Tip: The two-storeys townhouses are the original buildings from 1935 and have a large second story terrac...

Friendly staff and super clean and tidy outdoor and indoor spaces show the love the owner has for this place. We had a patio room which was enough space for two on a short stay. Breakfast and cocktail hours (complimentary) were perfect. Lounging poolside in the 30C afternoons or soaking in the hot tub before bed made the stay here even better. Nice and close to the old strip and in a neighbourhood packed with old Hollywood style. A definite return spot for us...we loved it.

Room Tip: If staying for a short time the patio or terrace rooms are great. If you are planning a longer stay...

Do not be discouraged that H G Wells' time machine never came to fruition, simply drive up Indian Canyon Drive and check in at the Movie Colony Hotel. Here Art Deco meets Mid Century Modern in a very unique property. The rooms are comfortable with period inspired art and furnishings. Don Draper would be comfortable sipping a Manhattan alongside the courtyard pool. The breakfast is ample and the 5 o'clock wine hour not to be missed. During our several stays we have enjoyed the hotel bicycles to tour the architecturally significant surrounding neighborhoods. It is speculated in urban legend that Jim Morrison's spirit still visits the MCH and if you hear a splash in the pool at 2AM it could be Jim and his L A Woman.
