When I decided to return to Palm Springs with my husband and daughter after a 40 year absence, I searched Trip Advisor to find an “old school” boutique hotel that would be reminiscent of my winters in PS as a child in the 60’s. I got exactly what I was looking for and then some from the Hotel California. Far from the sterility, cookie cutter rooms and forced glam of chain hotels that I wanted to avoid, our stay was like a throw back in time. Lucy, Larry, Patty, Judy and Steve were all amazing, kind and welcoming and just as stated in the previous reviews. It is obvious that the Hotel is a personal labor of love – no indifferent employees here.

Indeed, everything after you walk in the door was complimentary even including some stamps! We enjoyed the kitchen and beautiful grill to cook our meals and dine by candlelight by the fire pit. We really appreciated all the condiments and extra amenities (too numerous to mention!) that were provided. The complimentary use of the cruiser bikes and the free limo (yes a stretch) ride to the Thursday street fair were also highlights.

It might be noted that the Hotel California is a work in progress. The family just took over the property in February and there are some maintenance issues that were a little rough around the edges but I have no doubt they will be smoothed out soon in Larry’s capable hands. We also toured the top rated sister property, the Desert Riviera down the street, and agreed that although it was very nice, we personally preferred the privacy and ambiance of the Hotel California.

Although it is located on a very noisy street as has been noted before, the high walls, fountains, beautiful patios and gorgeous view of the mountains seem to sweep you far away from the action. I would liken it to European hotels where you can be very near the street but feel completely removed once inside the gate.

I can highly recommend this Hotel for those who are seeking a small, retro, intimate boutique experience. We have already reserved our same room for the same time next year. I have no doubt that with Lucy at the helm as general manager the Hotel California will soon be fully booked many months in advance and zooming up the ratings ladder on Trip Advisor, challenging the sister property the Desert Riviera for the top spot.

We just got back from our first time in Palm Springs. We booked at the Hotel California. The weather was beautiful and so was everything else. Larry, Patti, Lucy, Judy and Steve, staff made up of owner and family were exceedingly friendly and always helpful, never tired of going the extra mile, so to speak. The hotel itself is very quiet, cozy and clean. Wonderful landscaped, like sitting in your own garden. We also enjoyed our daily bike rides. Free bikes are provided by the hotel. We will go back very soon. A home away from home.

I cannot express how wonderful our stay, while short, at this lovely little gem in the desert. We arrived early, and was offered a room to change and relax by the pool prior to our booked room being ready. There is absolutely nothing that one can want for, or desire, that is not provided by this establishment. Our relaxing stay was effortless on our part, and total class, on the management's part. Lucy, was an exceptional hostess. This family run establishment is exceptional in the quality of rooms, rates, and services offered. We have traveled all over the world and found nothing that compares to the care given at this hotel. Top notch, top service --- we will return.

Hotel California was a great place to stay for our first visit to Palm Springs. Larry and his family treated us like old friends. How many hotels have you stayed at where they know everyone's name? Their strategy of making you feel at home worked well. Help yourself to soft drinks or bottled water from the fridge, enjoy the fire pit with a glass of wine, get personal recommendations on restaurants (plus they'll get you a reservation at the time you want), get dropped off in front of the restaurant from their limo - no extra charge. Hotel California isn't luxurious but it's clean, well stocked with what you need for a stress free stay and best of all, the owners are terrific at taking care of their guests.

This hotel was wonderful. Spotlessly clean, and the charm of a tropical garden. Larry and Patti were fantastic, offering us a beverage while our room was being cleaned, (we got there early). They make a huge effort to accommodate all of their guests.I would highly recommend staying there. By the way, the pool is kept at 90 degrees all year.

Lovely hotel and when the room I originaly reserved was moved because of renovations, they put me into a suite! The room was great, the grounds were beautiful, and the owners and staff delightful. It felt more like staying with family than a hotel. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We had stayed at the Desert Riviera in the past and loved the hotel. There was no vacancy so they recommended their sister property which was still undergoing renovation. For the price, it was fantastic. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The staff was great and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. We will return!
