“Not super fancy, but great”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Stayed a week in mid April. Think of it as more of an apartment than a destination resort. Has two pools, a hot tub and friendly casual atmosphere. Built in the 50's to last, adds to character. Monday morning has continental breakfast and Meet & Greet. Has a great history including Rat Pack and I Love Lucy!
Free Parking. Shopping centers across the street. Does not nickle and dime you. Many at meet & greet have been coming back for years.

Room Tip: North side quieter. Always full in the winter. Free popcorn in the activity center!! No elevators, s...

I booked this room as an RCI exchange. Upon arrival, we were given cursory instructions on where to park and how to get to the room. After parking and bringing the luggage through the lobby and past the front desk staff, I realized there were no elevators. I lugged 2 bags and a backpack up the stairs and by the time I got to the second to the top step, someone that appeared to be a maintenance man came over to ask if he could help. I said "not now". I repeated the scenario with another load of two bags with no assistance.

Upon entering the room, I was extremely disappointed. It was tired, broken down and pitiful. There was a Murphy Bed pulled down with a black garbage bag behind the head of the bed, hiding all the debris behind the bed. There was one towel rack, the other one was broken. There was one small, two drawer ready to assemble dresser in a closet and another ready to assemble shelving unit in another. The iron leaked everywhere. The $3 shower head could stand to be replaced with at least a $10 one that works. The faucets leaked, some utensils had food crud on them. The TV only gets a few stations - the rest are just fuzz. The fold out couch cushions were broken down and looked like they came out of a college dorm.

Parking - you get a "parking pass" that MUST be left in your window or risk being towed. HA! No one enforces that. We left to get dinner and groceries and returned to find the Purple Room was having a "show" and there was no parking except on the service drive or side street, because people coming for the show parked in the guest spots, as do the employees, catering trucks and the valet employee. I asked the person at the desk about it and he basically told me the last time the manager came out to resolve the parking situation, she had to come out in her bathrobe. It was obvious they had no intention of resolving the issue, weren't sorry about it and seemed to feel it was perfectly OK to have to park down the street and come back later and move the car. After a brief shouting match that included my dismay about having to tote my luggage up the stairs without help, I was resigned to trying to enjoy myself despite the room and management and lugged my case of water and pop and other groceries down the street and up the spiral staircase.

There are 2 pools - the North and the South. The North one is much nicer, has nicer, cleaner furniture and a hot tub.

While enjoying the pool they had a wine and cheese gathering to promote a tour of movie stars homes. When we went to use the bathroom we interrupted the staff using the sink area of the bathroom area to wrap up the leftover food and take care of the ice buckets, etc. It appears this happens on a regular basis and although the sink area is separated from the toilet stool by a door, it's still through the door that clearly states "bathroom". Turned me off.

OK, the good stuff: It's in a great location and you can jump on the bus and go downtown if you want and there is a plaza right across the street with a grocery store, restaurants and much more.

Although our room was overlooking the main drag, road noise was not an issue for sleeping.Despite being "tired", the room was clean. I didn't see any bugs or lizards. Hummingbirds are everywhere.

Also, there ARE very nice rooms there, I saw them. I just don't think "outsiders" get them. People who come year after year LOVE it and say they are treated like kings and queens. After my experience, I would never consider buying into this timeshare - I also was not asked, pestered or invited to buy in.

The restaurant was good, but is not owned by the Trinidad Club. It's a little pricey unless you go for happy hour specials.

Though nice looking from the outside, if cramped, the site was disappointing on the whole. Fantastic staff, cheerful, helpful. The studio room was really dated and missing enough from the kitchen inventory to make staying there and trying to cook annoying. No kettle?! The plumbing was the biggest problem. 4 flushes and the bowl still didn't drain. Staff tried to fix it and then they brought in a plumber: still no better. Some systemic problems in this quite elderly building. I won't go there again. Sad because it is a great location.

Every year I find all employees to be very courteous and helpful...especially Edna the Office Manager. The maids, maintenance guys and all managers are very friendly and accommodating. The location is great and the rooms are kept up with repairs as needed .....being an old landmark hotel. We love the place!

Room Tip: Being only a 2 story made it easier. The location was by far outstanding, walk to banks, grocery st...

Stay here. Our studio was spacious and had a murphy bed and a sleeper sofa. The service was great and very informative. Our room was very clean. This is a little ways from all of the shops on the main drag so I would recommend having a car.

Room Tip: Our room had a tile floor so pack slippers!

We booked this property as a time share exchange, and by far it was the worst property we've ever stayed at through RCI. It is in a convenient location, but it's downhill from there. It is noisy because it houses a busy bar/restaurant as the anchor tenant. Lots of delivery and patron noise in the evening hours. It is also hard to find parking during operating hours. There is barely enough parking for the "resort" guests, much less the bar patrons.

Club Trinidad gives you the impression that not much has changed since the 1950's other than a few coats of paint. I guess some people consider that charm. Our unit was a studio. It was basically a kitchen with a couch, chair and a double bed in it. No nightstand on either side of it. The bed's mattress was mush. We had to call maintenance in order to light the oven in the mini-stove. When we attempted it gas fumes permeated the room. The TV was a 19" tube type and only half of the advertised cable channels came in. The unit did have Wi-Fi but reception was often iffy. To our surprise, our unit was getting a stem to stern cleaning with toxic smelling chemicals when came in Wednesday afternoon. When we complained, we found out that complete maid service on Wednesday is mandatory, unless you go through some lengths to stop it, just the opposite of all other places we experienced where it is only by request. Staff was somewhat sarcastic and surly when we brought that up. The next day the front desk staff yelled out to everyone in the lobby, "stay away from Room xxx"

The claim is you can walk to everything. But all that is near is are a couple of strip malls across East Palm Dr., one of which houses a Ralph's and a few eating spots. Downtown is only about 7-9 minutes away by car where there are virtually unlimited eating and shopping options. And during that drive, you'll see lots better lodging options. We will be coming back to the Desert Valley but will never stay there again.

Room Tip: There are all kinds of hotels and condo rentals in that part of Palm Springs. I'm sure there are...

When we first drove up to this place, we were concerned. That lasted about 3 minutes. Our condo was spotless and well equipped, and you could not ask for a better location - right by the pool.
There is nothing the staff would not do for you. They are there within minutes of your request - truly amazing service.
Yes, this place is old, but always being kept up to keep satisfaction to the customers.
Art, the CEO is a true gentleman who has stories that could go on for hours and hours and more hours - and you still want more. Oh, those stories.
There is no doubt that this place has charm galore, and for that alone, we will stay there again, and again.
P.S. Jackie at the front desk is a jewel.
