“A bit of Europe hidden away in Palm Springs”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

We have traveled extensively in Europe and staying at the Karakia was similar to many small villas in Europe.....great service, good food, few amenities but extremely relaxing. If you expect the Four Seasons you will be disappointed...but if relaxing and enjoying your partner is your goal.....you cannot beat the Karakia. We met several great couples from various parts of the world....sitting by the pool and at the cosy fire rings.
Bring an alarm clock...but leave all your worries outside of Karakia...and you will return home relaxed and refreshed.

We recently spent the week-end at the Korakia Pensione and it lived up to all the hype and more. Just three blocks from the busy strip of Palm Springs it is in another world. Quiet, beautiful, secluded, one set of old adobe buildings has a Moroccan decor while the other adobe across the small street felt as though we had walked into someone's home in Greece. Paulette, the General Manager runs the small private hotel with care, the property well-maintained and the rooms clean and fresh. We stayed in Orchard House, one of the original adobes, and it was more a private home than a hotel, with a living room, bedroom, large dressing room with a copper tub, an outdoor stone jacuzzi, patio, three fireplaces and more. We checked out several other suites and rooms on the property -- each is unique and comfortable. With no tvs and no phones it is the perfect place to relax, read or do some writing.

Room Tip: You have several choices of suites and rooms and should speak to the staff when you make your reserv...

We loved our night stay at Korakia, gorgeous room, poolside, nestled up against the mountains. The library showing vintage movies, moroccan smells and colours all around, morning breakfast in the courtyard with freshly squeezed orange juice. Pity that the staff were'nt as inspired about Korakia as i was.

Thank you so much for your review! On behalf of myself and my staff I wanted to apologize if you did not feel that the staff was inspired by the property. In reality, the staff contributes significantly to all aspects of the hotel. Starting with the details you mentioned as well as creating the ambiance and adding personal touches to your experience. Korakia offers attentive service while always being very careful to respect our guest's privacy. We hope we get another chance soon to inspire you!

This is place to go when you want to to turn off and tune into another human being. (There is wireless so you don't have to suffer total withdrawal) but there are very few things that beep at this hotel. The rooms are without TV and there are no kids and pets allowed. All of which can be a wonderful thing (even if you are fond of yours). The rooms/suites come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. All are just steps from the pool area.

This is a peaceful place from the moment you awaken and head to the open patio for breakfast (included) straight through to dusk when they light all the candles and fireplaces on the property. A wonderful sight. There are cheaper and trendier places to stay but it's hard to resist the lure of this place. We prefer the Moroccan side to the Greek side but that's only because we had two great visits on that side. The other side seems just as nice. I'd go wherever I got the best room on my next visit.

Room Tip: Be sure to look at the detailed property map on the website.

Been trying to contact this hotel for several days. No one answers the phone at the front desk and no one responded to my email. With all the competition in Palm Springs, I'm sure I will find a hotel that will respond. They lost my business :(

Hi. I am sorry you were unable to get through. I will check our phone system to make sure everything is working appropriately. We did not however, have any messages in our email or machine. I do hope that you will consider us in the future, Korakia is truly a beautiful place! Something to remember is that you can also reserve your room on our website.

1st time that I did not read Trip Advisor before we booked this place as it was recommended by a friend...but "to each his own". First, lets start with the positive, the grounds are very nice, tranquil and very quiet. The pools and fireplace are nice. Our room was clean and spacious, the staff try to be accomondating, but a little too late. Trying to keep this short, the keywords are BED and Breakfast. Our bed was extremely uncomfortable, lumpy and sank in the middle, the room was very cold even with the heater on, I think the ill-fitting door let in a draft. Our breakfast was 2 eggs on top of dry corn tortillas with a side of beans, juice, coffee, the coffee was the best part. For over $300. a night (incl. tax), the 2 most important part of our stay should be an excellent bed and a great breakfast. We were offered another room as we getting ready for a reserved dinner, we declined because to move all our stuff across the street would have made us late. We bear one more night with an extra blanket and put 2 pillows in the sink hole, the french toast the following morning was a bit better. The potential is there for this place to be really great, I hope for improvement....I think this is my 1st negative review.

I apologize for your negative experience. Please know that we very frequently receive raving reviews about our beds, linens etc. I am not sure if the staff offered to move your belongings for you but it is something that we always do. In regards to the breakfast, the huevos rancheros is our most popular breakfast. This is the first time we have received a negative review about it. Part of the luxury of the hotel is in its simplicity, that being said we are always looking for ways to improve so thank you for your review and we will work harder to make Korakia better.

My husband and I spent last Christmas at the Korakia and we both loved our experience. Korakia is a unique, beautiful and very romantic property. Without any TVs, with the candles, tea lights and fire pits everywhere, there were no excuses for not paying full attention to one another! We took advantage of the bocce ball court, the warm pool, morning yoga, free bikes and made sure that we didn't leave without having wine by the fire pits. The super warm December temperatures were a welcome change even for those of us from Northern California. Highly recommended!
