So peaceful so quiet.Bring a light sweater if you are hiking in January as the canyon floor is about 10 degrees cooler than the desert.

Easy walk through the desert oasis of the canyon floor. Then move up the mountains for a great view and dry desert experience.

Natural beauty - but couple of tips. This place gets very busy. So glad we went early in day. Bring lots of water. No water available on trail - and some trails very long. Check w ranger before you head out (when we went there was ranger posted at top of canyon). Get recommendation on hike. We did not do this (there were couple people waiting to talk to him). We relied on map and found that map did not give accurate length of trail. Once we left the coolness of the oasis, we were on a trail in the blazing sun (wear sunscreen) for 45 minutes and did not see a trail marker for a turn off (as indicated on the map). We encountered another couple on the trail who said they had turned around after hiking for 1 hr in one direction and could not find the turn off either. Maps could be better marked (with accurate distance and notations as to what trails are shaded or in the sun). Very enjoyable hiking in a spectacular area - but things to know for next time.

I don't want to re-hash what everyone else already said about the hike next to creek and palm groves (utterly gorgeous!), but wanted to share that if you walk a 2 minute little trail at the end of the parking lot, past the store, you will find a cool little cave with a waterfall. At least in spring there is one, not sure if it is year round. It's not a "hike" by any means, it's literally just past the parking lot and the trail doesn't continue past the cave. But it's an interesting sight, and the kids loved splashing around under the waterfall.

Get out and enjoy Palm Springs away from the pavement. Good hiking and birding in the canyons. In the spring and fall wonderful spot to picnic.
