a must do for all Palm Springs newbies. If you visit after 4pm you get 4 dollars off the 23 dollar admission fee. This is a good time to come if you want to see the amazing views in the daylight on the way up, see the sunset from the top and come down at night. you'll get the range of views this way. you also avoid long lines of people coming down from 4p-5p. just remember the top is currently snowy and around 40 degrees with strong, cold gusts. I recommend grabbing a hot tea/chocolate/coffee from the cafeteria when you get to the top and then heading outside. The ice can be treacherous so watch out. the souvenir shop at the top does sell traction shoes, gloves, beanies and anything else you might need. happy trekking.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is quite an experience. The main station is located outside the main area of Palm Springs and needs to be reached by car (unless you want to do some very serious incline hiking!) Once you get your ticket, you'll ride the tramway all the way to the top of San Jacinto Mountain, a State Park, which has a final elevation of 8,516 feet. Keep in mind it will be significantly colder at the top, probably with snow, so make sure to dress appropriately.

During the ride up, the tramway revolves in a full circle twice, giving everyone the opportunity for some great views of both the mountain, as well as the valley below. We'd highly recommend doing this during daylight hours, especially first thing in the morning, for the best views, and the lowest crowds.

At the top, you can continue taking in the breathtaking views of the valley, or turn around and go hiking or snowshoeing through San Jacinto State Park. We only explored a little bit at the top, but there are numerous trails for visitors to explore, as well as 2 restaurants.

When in Palm Springs, this should definitely be an attraction to visit.

We had a great clear sunny morning with some snow up at the top of the San Jacinto;s. The tram car leaves every 30 minutes and it rotates around so you never get a bad view, you can see everything from all sides. Takes about 10 minutes to go up and then spend some time walking the many trails for all levels or just take in the scenery on the various decks. You can also enjoy either cafeteria style lunch or dinner or a nicer sit down served dinner or a bar area with appetizer food. Going up in the a.m during the week, first tram was a good idea, we missed some of the crowds. Heading back down they announce when the trams are leaving which are every 30 minutes. Everyone working there is very helpful and friendly. Have a nice gift shop too ground level and on the peak. You just can't get a better view and a fun day. May go back for sunset, after 4 pm the price drops. Trams end by 8:45 pm last one back down.

The ride up the mountain is glorious. It was 75 degrees by the pool in the afternoon and 40 degrees on the mountain top at dinner time. The views and the ride were incredible both going up and coming down in the evening. However I would suggest you skip having dinner in either the restaurant of the cafeteria. The food was just OK but expensive. A few drinks at the bar with the gorgeous view will suffice!
