We had a great clear sunny morning with some snow up at the top of the San Jacinto;s. The tram car leaves every 30 minutes and it rotates around so you never get a bad view, you can see everything from all sides. Takes about 10 minutes to go up and then spend some time walking the many trails for all levels or just take in the scenery on the various decks. You can also enjoy either cafeteria style lunch or dinner or a nicer sit down served dinner or a bar area with appetizer food. Going up in the a.m during the week, first tram was a good idea, we missed some of the crowds. Heading back down they announce when the trams are leaving which are every 30 minutes. Everyone working there is very helpful and friendly. Have a nice gift shop too ground level and on the peak. You just can't get a better view and a fun day. May go back for sunset, after 4 pm the price drops. Trams end by 8:45 pm last one back down.

The ride up the mountain is glorious. It was 75 degrees by the pool in the afternoon and 40 degrees on the mountain top at dinner time. The views and the ride were incredible both going up and coming down in the evening. However I would suggest you skip having dinner in either the restaurant of the cafeteria. The food was just OK but expensive. A few drinks at the bar with the gorgeous view will suffice!

I definitely recommend arriving for the first tram (8am) as when we arrived (9:15am), it was already very busy. The ride up can be cramped, BUT the views are worth it. It's incredible to ascend that fast up that many vertical feet. We didn't take advantage of a lot at the top, spent only about an hour watching the movies, looking at the view. The ride down was much more comfortable because there were only 8 of us and we could move around a lot better. This is definitely something you must do when in Palm Springs and if you are a hiker, apparently there are many trails/dayhikes to take advantage of at the top. Oh, and 1 more thing, it is freezing up there so dress in layers!

It snowed in the mountains, so when I arrived on the mountaintop, it was 10 degrees, with 8 inches of snow. The tram goes around and around, and it rocks back and forth. So I got motion sickness, and altitude sickness on top of that. It is ok to do this one time, but I would not do it again.

What a unique attraction! It's a great way to get a different perspective on the desert and get an appreciation of the topography.

Two hints: go early and bundle up! It was cold at the top in February.
