“Don't miss it!”

This is one of southern California's best public art museums. They have extensive collections of Native American artifacts, Contemporary art, and a fine Western collection--both traditional and contemporary. Free admission on Thursday evenings, so there is not excuse. Also a beautiful downstairs cafe among outdoor sculptures.

“Art in the desert”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Situated just off the main road through Palm Springs the Art Museum is well worth a visit.
It occupies an impressive modern structure and is very well laid out with an excellent selection of largely modern pieces with a smaller section of traditional native American artifacts.
There are regular free tours where a docent will provide details about a number of selected items.
Keep in mind the gallery is closed on Mondays and there is free entry on Sundays.

“A wonderful surprise in Palm Springs”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Even though I suspected there was little life in Palm Springs, I was definitively corrected when I visited the art museum. Not a lover of modern art, I nevertheless enjoyed this beautifully designed facility with its thoughtful and -- even for me -- intriguing collection. Not to be missed if you're in Palm Springs. One tip: take the docent's tour offered on free Thursdays at 5 PM and see if you can get Patrick Blythe.

“Great Museum!”

Well arranged exhibits and good signage. Spent an enjoyable morning and saw everything without the overwhelming feeling one may have in a larger museum.

“Interesting mix of art”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We have seen many art museums in our time.
The glass exhibit was nice.
The Chihully outdoor exhibit seemed like a cheap representation of his work, spread out over different areas, not giving the affect he has at his museum.
So that was disappointing.
The stack of plates was cool, if you walk around them, they appear to be moving.
The optical illusion lighted box was really nice also, makes you think and want to try to recreated it at home.
Frank Sinatra donated alot of money to the museum.
