“Old Palm Springs charm”
Reviewed December 3, 2008

We've stayed at Casa Ocotillo twice and have really enjoyed both stays (as did our dog). It offers some old Palm Springs charm, with all the modern amenities in nicely furnished rooms. Vic and Brian treat their customers as if they are old friends who are personal house guests. For dog owners who bring their pets, it's the perfect place to stay. "Dog-friendly" takes on a whole extra dimension at Caso Ocotillo. It's not for Palm Springs visitors seeking the active scene - if's quiet and peaceful - the perfect place for a relaxing afternoon around the pool. The convenient location in a quiet residential area close to downtown is a big plus too.

I really enjoyed staying at Casa Ocotillo. Brian and Vic are very hospitable. The rooms are immaculate, warm and decorated beautifully. The location is close to everything and yet slightly off the beaten path --- and therefore quiet! Although I don't have a dog, the accomodations for dog owners appear to be excellent. It was a quick trip and I was only able to stay for one evening, but would definitely spend more time at Casa Ocotillo next time.

My partner and I just returned from a weekend in Palm Springs and we were fortunate to have stayed at the fantastic Casa Ocotillo.

We highly recommend this small hacienda style B&B for gay men that is very pet (and human) friendly. The casita style rooms are well appointed, have nice linens, towels, and the bathrooms are nice with lovely, large showers.

A top spot for discriminating gay men that enjoy an excellent, comfortable and relaxing visit. The owners who live on property were very accomodating and offerered good advice on activities in the area. They make you feel at home and make the atmosphere very comfortable and enjoyable.

Overall, an excellent choice. Highly recommended.

We were travelling with our pet Wire Fox Terrier, Tosca, who was also made to feel very welcome....

Casa Ocotillo provided the perfect place, after a week of touring around California's coast, to relax in the sun and enjoy a few days of R&R . I found our hosts, Vic and Brian, to be super-hospitable, available for helpful suggestions on dining and Palm springs logistics. The BrokeBack Mountain Suite, our own private Casita, was spacious and beautifully appointed. I really enjoyed the casual atmosphere around the property, especially at the pool; and evening converations with our hosts and other guests in the comfortable outdoor living room. The resident Hummingbirds on the property offered no-end of photo opts and just a wonderful touch of whimsy and enchantment to an already magical place. I thouroughly enjoyed my three day stay.

It seams most other resorts close the office, lock up and go home after a certain time, it was quite a treat to find Brian and Vic waiting for our late arrival to attend to our needs. Even though it was late at night, we were even given a tour to familarize us with the property, and soon learned that none of their guests will ever be told to look for a key in a potted plant and left alone in the dark to find their room. Talk about customer service! Even better, this resort styled B&B lived up to the website. Having stayed at many other Palm Springs properties over the years, this lovely oasis in the desert is the exception to how most properties are operated. Vic and Brian made us feel very welcome from the start, even though our travelplans had us arriving late. It felt more like friends coming to visit old friends in their home, instead of paying guests!

During the day, fresh sun tea was always available along with sodas and bottled water from the guest kitchen. Also during our visit we met other guests at an evening cocktail party pool side, and were invited along to see the Sunday evening show at Streetbar. We later learned that this is how they treat all their guests. What a special treat.

Having two very personable owners living on the property makes a difference. Brian and Vic went out of their way to see that we had the best time while visiting Casa Ocotillo and Palm Springs! Their attention to the smallest details and immaculate rooms is nothing short of amazing.

Can't wait to return! We are so lucky to have found Casa Ocotillo, our new vaction home.

We recently stayed at the Casa for 8 nights and had a great time. Vic and Brian are very nice and make every effort to insure that you are happy.

Some reviewers have complained that this is not a 5 star luxury hotel, and I agree, it's not - it's a 5 star gay boutique hotel/b&b. You should not expect the sort of luxury that can be experienced at 5 star hotel with 300 rooms. However, with only 5 rooms, you will experience a personal level of attention that you will never get at any other type of property. And from what I've seen, it is the nicest property in Palm Springs, for the money.

On arriving, you will be given a complete tour of the property, and introduced to other guests (if they're around). The only strange thing is that we weren't exactly sure what to do when we arrived. There's no buzzer at the front (although it looked like they might be adding one in the future), so we were left wondering what to do until we stumbled on Brian.

Vic & Brian are very accommodating - if you want to be left alone, just let them know and they will. Or if you prefer to mingle with other guests, they will invite you to cocktails and snacks in the outdoor living room (for free). In addition, you have 24/7 access to the guest kitchen with a stocked refrigerator. On several nights, we made our own dinner using the outdoor grill and guest kitchen, rather than going out for dinner.

We had the Hacienda Room which is quite large and nicely decorated with unique art that Brian has collected. The bath is also spacious (although it would have been nice to have two sinks or at least a bigger mirror - we were constantly fighting for sink/mirror space), and the shower is very roomy with a rain shower and wall shower.

The pool area is clothing optional, and while we were there, most people did not take advantage of this. However, Vic & Brian do a very good job of making people feel comfortable, so while most people kept their shorts on, I did not feel uncomfortable taking mine off. And while it is optional, there is no friskiness going at all, as at some other properties in Palm Springs.

Since we stayed for a such a long time (it was actually over 10 days, but we took 2 nights in the middle for a side trip out of Palm Springs), we became very familiar with the property. Vic and Brian were even kind enough to invite us to dinner in their house one night.

I have a very high attention to detail (ok, I'm OCD) and there were a few little things that bugged me, but they really were minor.

1. For the first part of our stay, the rug that was in our bathroom had a hole in it. I didn't say anything about it, but when we returned for the second part of our stay, the rug had been replaced. This was a good thing... but it would have been even better if the holey rug was never there.

2. Ashley (Vic & Brian's dog) is *extremely* friendly. As not a real dog lover, I found him a bit annoying at times. However, I did know there was going to be a dog there (as the clearly spelled out on the website) so it's not like I wasn't warned, and Vic & Brian do a good job of not letting him bother you too much. I'm sure if I had complained they would have kept him away completely... but then I would have felt bad. I don't hate dogs, I just don't particularly like them.

If/when we return to Palm Springs we will definitely stay at the Casa again.

It was like staying at 2 long time friends home - comfortable, hospitable and private. We felt well taken care of and free to relax. This is the perfect place for partners who want the relaxation to be found in Palm Springs without the drama and flash. We will be staying here again and again.
