“Great for Golfing Couples”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This resort has it all. The grounds are beautiful and spacious. The pool area is huge. The waterways are so peaceful and there are so many sitting areas to just relax and enjoy. A great place to golf, jog, walk, whatever exercise you like to do. We took the Pilates class and it was a wonderful workout. Plenty of restaurants to choose from as well, with delicious food. You can arrive for the weekend and never leave, with plenty to do. We love it here and continue to return, year after year.

Room Tip: We have always stayed on the back side facing the mountain range, overlooking the water. I think ev...

I think the hotel campus was very beautiful. The lobby was gorgeous and quite busy. The shops close awfully early, so if you are interested in shopping best to come by early in the day. The inside bar got extremely loud at night. The rooms along the inside could hear noises, laughter and music til almost midnight. I understand it was a good place to meet people but really took away from the sleeping experience. I am not sure how anyone can sleep well with that noise. It would have been helpful for them to shut the noise down at 10 pm and maybe move outside where the noise would have been less obvious. Beds were very comfortable. The room was clean and the bathrooms were a very nice size.

Room Tip: Not anywhere near the bar in the lobby. The noise will keep you up especially on weekend nights.

Just got back from a retreat at this JW facility, and was blown away by the entire experience! You are greeted with warm hospitality from the time you pull up front, to the housekeeping staff, to all the staff trying to make your day better. What wonderful people! And the facility is expansive. Food truly delicious, and different. The bar in the lobby is welcoming, with small "living room" type areas for as big or small a group as you'd like. The pool(s) provide all kinds of space for lounging, and with 350 days of sun in this city, what's not to like? Sleeping rooms are spacious and have all kinds of amenities to make your room like home. The bathroom was nicely appointed with a welcoming soaking tub, as well as a separate tub, nice vanity, plush robes and towels, and great shampoos/soaps. The spa was well worth the visit, with a complete locker room, sauna, jacuzzi, and 48! treatment rooms so they can deal with crowds efficiently and without stress. The gym was also nicely appointed, with a variety of aerobic machines, Life Fitness equipment, and free weights, as well as a separate yoga room. I'm not sure how, but the elevator on our floor was always waiting for us, and was quick to get you down to the lobby. The meeting rooms were nicely appointed, and catering was superb. I would recommend this for a couples weekend retreat or a big corporate meeting. Really great service, facility, food, and people! Thank you!

We had a great time here, very relaxing. The hotel was very quiet during our time here and as a consequence was slightly lacking in atmosphere. We travelled with our 11 year old son and it would have been nice if there had been a few more children around, but this is not the fault of the hotel. Our room was spacious and very clean, our bed was comfortable and we had a good view from our balcony. It was in a good location and we had a great day out at Joshua national park. Would recommend this hotel for adults wanting a bit of luxury but probably wouldn't be my first choice next time as a family hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort and Spa from October 12-15, 2012. It was a trip paid for by his employer. I have to say we were highly impressed from start to finish. The staff was truly great and went out of their way to be friendly and hospitable. We have traveled often (well more often before we had a baby) and I was impressed with how nice every single staff person was that we encountered.

We had room 7245. It had a balcony with a view of the pool, golf course and mountains. Our room was very clean and housekeeping did a great job each day. The king bed was very comfortable and there was a nice flat screen TV, two nightstands, a large dresser, mini-fridge, desk with two chairs and a small sleeper sofa with a coffee table. The bathroom was large, with a separate shower and tub.

We ate at the hotel a few times and each time we were not disappointed, the food was excellent. We had breakfast at the Rockwood Grill and because we were pressed for time we chose the buffet. This was the most elaborate breakfast buffet I had ever seen - beautifully presented with tons of fresh fruit, cereals, hot oatmeal, eggs, sausage, bacon, assorted dried fruits and nuts, pancakes and assorted breads, bagels and pastries. It certainly wasn't cheap at around $24 per person, but the food was excellent. Another morning we ordered room service and it was also delicious (pancakes and a Belgian waffle). Also not cheap but well worth it to eat in bed! Another day we had lunch at the Rockwood Grill, which we also enjoyed. The first night we attended a private dinner outside on the grounds. It was a buffet with foods from different nationalities. Again, we thoroughly enjoyed this meal.

The resort has a lot to offer and is very large. The number one complaint I read in reviews before we went was that it was so big it takes a while to walk to your room. We found this to be true but didn't mind the exercise. However, if you have difficulty walking or small children you might want to request to be closer to the elevators. We went swimming twice, there are three pools. It wasn't very crowded when we were there so there was plenty of room. We also rented bikes from the shop located onsite at the resort. It was a fun way to explore Palm Desert and Palm Springs. You can also rent motorcycles.

We both got massages at the spa, which was very nice. The workout room looked well equipped. I normally workout on vacation but it was so nice out that I chose to run outdoors. The concierge was nice enough to show me a map. If you run outside the entire resort and make a complete circle it is over 3 miles. It was a great run, with pretty views.

Overall, we honestly have no complaints about the resort. We had a great time and would highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel is on lovely grounds but the rooms are small , low ceiling and a bit dated . It is not bad but not special. To me the rooms felt like a run of the mill Hilton or Shearton not a JW. When I stayed there about 7 years ago I was impressed but now it seems dated. Staff were good however .

Room Tip: the 7th floor is your best bet for a good room and avoid the 8th floor as the rooms are even smaller

My wife and I spent a long weekend here for a wedding in September and had a great time.

Pros:
* it's physically beautiful, set among a gorgeous golf course with great views to the mountains
* the staff are very helpful; a nice guy at the desk called Ernesto even gave me directions to the nearest Five Guys Burgers & Fries and In & Out Burger (which are both fairly close; another pro!). The concierge helped me out with some great touristy ideas on our spare day, which was also great.
* there's a bar, Starbucks, hairdresser etc in the lobby, so everything is right at your fingertips

Cons:
* the only thing I can think of is that the place is so huge! We were in a room pretty far from the lobby and it felt like such a long walk getting there and back. I probably walked off my burgers just by returning to my room!

Otherwise, it's a great place and I'd thoroughly recommend it.
