My wife and I visiting from Seattle heard of a great and unique experience in Palm Desert - to go to the JW Marriott to ride on a boat that can travel inside the resort and out onto wonderful lake. The lobby was impressive and we got on the boat to travel the lake. Once outside we were impressed by the resident black swans (white swans too). What I REALLY want to tell you about is a new restaurnat that opened lat Thursday within the JW Marriott - The Rockwood Grill. We had the BEST meal we've eaten in the greater Palm Springs area after visiting local restaurants the last four days! A buffett was offered that included incredible Alaskan King Crab (all you can eat!) salmon & rack of lamb were also available amongst many other deluctible foods. To top it off was a dessert buffet with 25 options - ALL were very tasty. We left stuffed but more importantly, we left impressed like we have been in years. Check out this GREAT new restaurant - you will be impressed!

My wife and I booked the spa and golf package and had a wonderful weekend. The room was large, clean and quiet. The pop corn ceilings made it a bit dated, but that is a very minor point. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to get away for the weekend.

I just stayed here over the past weekend for a girls get away...check in was a bit slow since we had a clerk in training but we were able to check in earlier than expected and hit the pool. Advice get out to pool early if you want a lounge chair! It was packed, but we managed to find a couple of chairs and get cocktail service within a few minutes. We ordered lunch poolside and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. Cocktails were a bit steep considering the cups are filled mostly with ice. My major complaints about the pool were, security was constantly hounding us for our entry bracelets since we didnt want tan lines we put them on our bikini tops and that bar service ceases at 5! The sun doesn't set until almost 8! So off we went to clean up for dinner at Lakeview. The rooms were clean, but I think a bit dated considering its a JW. Water pressure was a trickle so taking a shower took longer than it should have. We had a quick glass of wine out on the balcony and then down to the boat launch for the ride to the restaurant. I recommend the boat ride just simply for the view if its a moonlite night. We all chose to go with the buffett, couldn't go wrong at $29.99 for a good mix of entrees, desserts etc. Try the blueberry martini! After dessert we walked the grounds a bit and headed to the nightclub on site, Costas...definitely for the younger crowd but we still had fun dancing and people watching. All in we definitely would come back.

We just got back from our mini-vacation and we had a wonderful time. Please be aware that I'm writing this review from a family traveling with kids perspective.

Property: The property at the JW Marriott is very nice and well kept. This a big resort and you have to do some walking to get from one side to the other, so be prepared. There is a lake in the middle of the property that is very nice and the hotel offers boat rides (at no extra charge) during the day. Also, from 6-9pm they will provide boat rides to the two main restaurants (Mikado and Lake View Terrace) on the property. The hotel is surrounded by a golf course that looks very nice (we didn't golf) and also has a mini-golf course on the property that guest can play (part of the resort fee).

Rooms: The rooms are very nice and have everything you need: mini refrigerator, blow dryer, LCD TV, safe, robes, etc... The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is very nice (separate shower and tub), and the terrace is a decent size. We had our two daughters with us and got a room with two double beds. However, I would recommend a room with a king bed as it will come with a nice pull-out couch and provide more space than a double-bed room.

Pools: The hotel has a main pool area (that has 3 separate pools) and a family pool. We were at the family pool with our friends we traveled with (they all have kids as well). The family pool is very nice and great for kids. It wasn't loud like you would think it would be and you still get good pool service there. The family pool starts at 1 and 1/2 feet and slowly gets deeper. Our little ones were able to stand in the pool for the most part, which really makes life easier. I found the pool to be a perfect temperature.

The main pool area is where the action is and it can get crowded. Also, they check your bags as they do not allow any outside food or drinks into the pool area. I know they want you to buy drinks at the hotel, but letting a few drinks in wouldn't hurt or some outside food. Also, be prepared as it might be hard to find seating by the pool (remember it gets crowded).

Restaurants & Bars: This is where it gets expensive. We ate at Mikado (similar to a Benihana) the first night. The food was really good. Be prepared to spend about $50/person on food. We were prepared for the food at Mikado to be about that price. However, drinks were a different story. I ordered five drinks and it came to $80...that's $16/drink...that pricier than Las Vegas.

After Mikado we went to the lobby bar. Items were just as expensive there. Four shots of tequila was $60...unreal...these weren't double shots either.

The next morning we went to Lake View Terrace for breakfast. We did the buffet as a la carte meals were about the same price. The buffet was $25/person...and it wasn't even that good.

Service: The service at this hotel is great and they accommodated our every need. Nothing negative to say here.

All-in-all this a good hotel and we would stay here again (with or without kids). However, it is too expensive to eat or drink at the hotel. They definitely gouge you here.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with kids, request a room by the family pool. This will definitely cut down on the walking you have to do at this hotel.

Service was the high point. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything worked well in the room, but the noise from the hall and next room was a little loud. Not a party, just loud people. The bed was super comfy and I appreciated the empty mini refrigerator. Internet connection and TV reception were both poor. Really wish the hotel was more water conscious! The flagrant waste of water was a little disturbing given the desert location. For a JW I expected more, but we had a good rate.
