This resort hotel has a real Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hide split personality. The resort grounds are very nice with beautiful views of the mountains, the lobby is airy, modern and inviting, but as you go into the wings to your room, Motel X welcomes you. Narrow long corridors where you have to squeeze past overflowing housekeeping carts any time of day, empty flower beds yawning like open graves, carpet that must have come from liquidation sale at Moe's Ugly Rugs in 1975. The biggest problem however is incompetent management. The hotel is undergoing renovations, so who in his right mind would put resort guests in a room right above the jackhammer work? We complained and were given another room, but it took two hours, endless waiting at the front desk and spoiled the mood for the day. Everything takes for ever at this hotel. We went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. The place was three-quarters full, but there was just one waiter running off his feet trying to serve the guests. Half an hour later more waiters arrived and one of them languidly informed us that they start at 8:30 a.m. What does this mean? A restaurant is either open or closed, if it is open, you should not wait 40 minutes for your omelette. The amazing thing is that this is a quite expensive hotel, and JW Marriott is supposed to be Marriott's chain luxury brand. However, this one does not even measure up to its modest $175 a night cousins in Midwest.

Room Tip: Try to get one in the main building, facing the mountains.

Our family stayed at the JW Marriott during Easter spring break. They had the Easter bunny parachute out of the sky and drop onto the grassy area in front of the hotel. It was organized and they had a great Easter egg hunt for the kids. The grounds were beautiful. There are upscale stores for shopping. The lounge area is great for adults...good martinis and appetizers. Only downfall to consider when staying here is they had no kitchenette, so we had to go out to eat for every meal. It adds up when you have kids and most of the restaurants weren't very kid friendly (upscale and pricey) except for the pool bar and grill area. They do have a little golf area for kids. There is a Starbucks inside, which is where we ate breakfast. You'll have fun here!

Room Tip: If you have kids, ask to be close to kids pool.

What can I say? The resort was everything I wanted for a relaxing weekend trip. We came down for the Indian Wells Tennis tournament and all I can say is that the JW was everything we wanted. We took tennis clinics, relaxed in the spa and just did nothing! The service was great, loved the lobby bar was fun with great service. My only issue was with the food. It was just ok. But we didn't let it ruin our trip. The room was great we faced the back of the resort with views of the golf course and pools. The room was big with plenty of bathroom space and hangers for our clothes and a great balcony!

The resort is expensive as another reviewer stated, but we didn't coming in expecting it to be a bargain, as this is a full service resort.

I'm already planning my next trip back!!

Room Tip: get a room in the back the view is great!!

Traveled with my husband, which was on business and planned a very restful week. I had read the reviews before going and I have to agree - this resort did not meet the criteria in our minds of a JW Marriott. We were informed that they had just renovated the rooms. Well if you call an all white/off white room - then I guess they have renovated. There was beautiful crown molding, but painted the same color as the walls - nothing exciting!!! The bathroom had both shower and tub, but only one sink and not much space. There were not enough wall hangers for towels or clothes. Our room faced the front of the resort (which was also disappointing). We overlooked the 18 hole putting course - which was awesome and fun and the parking lot/street. The positives of the room was it was quiet. We were a VERY long way from anything. The gift shop is the only place you can purchase sodas or snacks and it is on the lobby floor to the left of the check in and we were on the 7th floor, on the other side of the lobby, way to the right!!! The cost of 3 sodas were over $10. VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE, with no machines anywhere. I understand there are stores accross the street to purchase your own water/sodas, etc. There was a small refrigerator in the room. The view of the swimming pools and golf course is beautiful. Neither of us golf, so we did spend a day at the spa. The prices are very high for a resort, but includes a private pool, separate men/women hot tub area, steam rooms, amazing shower, lounge areas. It was beautiful. You have to pay additional $27 + tax daily to use the Wireless Internet, Fitness Center (at the spa), self parking, daily golf bag storage, turndown services with water, mini-folg and lawn games. If you don't have an appointment at the spa you have to pay????dollars or you cannot use the pool or areas I spoke of earlier - just the work out area. It is a nice area with lots of equipment and machines. All VERY clean. We stayed one whole day at the spa/pool and another day at the larger pool. Service was excellent, but prices again were very expensive. Drinks were $12, sandwichs ran $15. We shared alot, due to cost, but serving sizes were amazing and the salads were huge and delicious. I have to say all the food was wonderful. There is a StarBucks in the lobby also. Our biggest issue with the Resort is that when we checked in we had requested to extend our stay from Fri AM til Sun, when our flight was scheduled. We had been successful in getting the one night, but was unable to obtain the second night. We were told they would place on on the top of the list for cancellations and watch it daily (this was on Tuesday). We checked with them daily, was told there was not a list and by Friday did not have an answer, except they were sold out. So was the entire area due to a Major Tennis Tournament. We finally found a room 30 miles farther away from the airport and took it, just to have a place to go on Saturday night. Check out is at 11:00 am. At 10:00 am we received a call that the Marriott had a room!! We had been told a list of available rooms was generated at midnight. So disappointed in their customer service and you would have thought a call earlier would have occurred. We were already packed so went ahead and kept our other reservations, since we could not obtain a refund. We did not obtain a rental car, since we were to have lots of rest and relaxation at the JW Marriott, so this was quite costly for us. We've learned some things from this trip, but again I felt it was a disappointment in regards to their service. The hotel we stayed at on Saturday was way below the standards of a Marriott, but they at least had a "Desert Guide" Magazine in the room - which Marriott only had Golf, Tennis, and Marriott information. We had seen a Doon Buggy Trip we would have done, so we asked about other transportation than a cab and there is none - or at least this is what I was told. Also, I agree with the review on pillows - they are terrible. Take your own, if possible. Wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: Ask for view of pools, golf course, but not over the lounge/nite club. If walking issues, make sure...

Switched hotels and came here. What a place. Great rooms and beds!! Once of the best customer service experiences I have had in years. (As good as Disney) My wife became ill while there and we had to leave early. No problem with late check out and they could not have accommodated us more.
When all is better we will come back.
If you like golf I think this is better than Hilton Head. Weather is great.
They have 450 acres on this property; great spa and fitness center.

Room Tip: We liked our room. If you are out and about I am not sure a higher priced room adds that much value...

My husband and I went to JW Marriott in Palm Desert, for some R&R. We loved everything about this hotel. The staff were all super nice, from the bell boy to the cleaning lady. Everyone that worked in the hotel always went out of their way to say hello, everyone was so polite and curtious. We loved our room, it was quiet and clean and the bed was very confortable. Loved the Starbucks on the resort, that made my mornings. The pools were beautiful and resort was gorgeous and very clean. Lots of chairs available which i loved, so you are always guaranteed a place to sit by the pool. Drinks were abit expensive by the pool site, but its worth it when you get it delivered to you. We will definatley come back to this hotel in a heart beat.

Room Tip: away from the night club.

We stayed here at the Marriot in Feburary for a buisness conference and it did not disappoint! Palm Springs itself is very desert and there is not much to do but we didnt even notice at the hotel. The weather is always pristine and the air is warm but perfectly dry. The pool was always nice and staff walked around with cold face cloths on a platter, it was SO refreshing. The lobby was so cool...there was a Starbucks, which was awesome, and a yummy sushi restaurant. The lobby was also filled with tropical birds and believe it or not...water! The wall rose up for the boats to enter in. After a short, luxurious boat ride you can be at a restaurant including the delicious Japenese Steak house which i definelty recommend. This is a magnificent hotel where there was always something to do!
