My husband & I stayed at this hotel for 1 night courtesy of his job for the company Christmas party. The outside doesn't look that impressive, although you can tell it is a huge hotel. Once you enter it actually looks very nice. They had a big Christmas tree & very nice holiday decor throughout so that may have helped. Check in was fast, our room & bathroom was very spacious, upgraded, flat screen tv with a comfortable bed. Overall it was a nice, comfortable stay.

Really enjoyed stayed here with my teenage son and partner, we enjoyed the pool area, during the week, nice and quiet and at the weekend very lively which was amusing.. even if we were not drinking and joining in with the party. The grounds are nice and the food at the restaurant was good. We had a free upgrade to a room overlooking the pool quite high up , it was stunning.... the room itself was comfortable and clean. Overall great fun, this is the second time I have come back in the last seven years and not much had changed, so although it is lovely it could do with a spruce up.

Stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs for one week and it was great. Service was excellent and it had all the amenities needed. Food at the various restaurants was on the high side but the food was excellent. Plus various lower costing eateries were close by, (i.e. Sherman's Deli). Played golf at the Valley course on the property and it was in excellent shape. Just across the street to the north are also two excellent courses at the Deseret Willows with very reasonable green fees.

Room Tip: Long walk to elevator from rooms on the perimeter, would request to be closer to elevator in the fut...

I wish I'd taken the sage advice of fellow Marriott elite members and stayed somewhere else. I could not agree more that this is a once-beautiful hotel that is now in need of a major, major overhaul. As a Gold Elite member, I asked upon check-in if I could get a free upgrade and was told "No, all of those rooms are either taken or are being held for others." Not a good answer!! I was shocked once I got into my room (which felt like a 20 mile hike from the front desk) at the decor. The end tables and lamps literally looked like they were from the 1970s, and I found a tag on the mattress that it dated back to 1999 (do you really want to advertise that your mattresses are well over 10 years old?). I called the front desk and very nicely asked for a more updated room. I was told some rooms had been updated and I was met at my door with a key to a new room. You guessed it--the decor and furniture were identical to my first room. At this point, I gave up trying (and no one from the front desk ever called to ask me what I thought of the new room either). The one saving grace for us was tennis.

My husband and I visited the property with close friends to enjoy the sunshine and heat, and were not disappointed. Our room faced the front of the hotel, which was a nice view but nothing spectacular, but the room had a great layout and decent sized balcony that was particularly nice in the morning and evening. Bed was really comfy and bathroom was huge, with a separate bath and shower. Having a mini-fridge in the room was nice, too.
Several pools on the property, which were large and nice (but nothing fancy), with poolside beverage service. You MUST try the pina coladas - best I've had in my life!! The boat ride is fun, but take it for what it is. Enjoyed riding it to Mikado, the Japanese steakhouse. We made reservations for the first seating of the night to save some money, which I would recommend, because it's pricey, but the food was good and service was great.
The resort is about half an hour outside of Palm Springs, but nearby Palm Desert has pretty much everything you need. Renting a car was a must.
We had a great couple days off lying in the much-needed sunshine. Not sure if we'll be back - not for lack of quality - but if we go back to the Palm Springs area, I think we'd be more likely to stay in town.

As an elite Marriott Rewards member travel to a gazillion Marriotts around the world. Have stayed frequently at this hotel and the Marriott Desert Spring Villas. You generally stay here because of a convention and you're stuck staying here. If you're traveling for pleasure, there are better choices for you (i.e. the Villas or the Westin). This hotel has been in need of a major room upgrade for 10 years, but they still haven't really done anything about it seemingly deciding to put their money into their newer vacation club resorts (i.e. the Villas).

The golf courses are ok here, but again you can do better offsite. The geese and duck are fun for kids to watch, but the novelty of the boat wears off pretty quick - like after your first ride.

Because of the massive layout of the resort, if you don't plan carefully you will have an awfully long walk from the parking garage to your room - check out the resort map and talk to the front desk when booking your room to avoid this. Or don't - and then you have your morning exercise without having to go to the gym.

Speaking of parking garage. If there is a convention at the hotel, it is extremely hard to find a self-parking spot forcing you to park valet and pay $$.

The main bar lobby is always interesting although it's also the same home for the japanese restaurant - which is below average in both quality, service and taste. That goes for pretty much all the places to eat in Palm Springs except the Morton's across the street.

If you're a marriott rewards member - would suggest NOT using your points at this hotel - it's not really worth it - you could do better at another resort or just saving them for a more memorable resort (the drive up the resort is nice but that's probably the nicest thing about this resort). Grab the points you're going to get here and run!

On the flip side, have always had good service experiences at this resort - maybe due to my elite status with Marriott.

Room Tip: Based on layout of resort, plan room choice carefully if you're doing self-park so that you aren...
