“Great location, good tennis”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

We were lucky to be able to rent a studio just 2 weeks before Christmas for Christmas week the studio was adequate, could use some updating, but was clean and nothing to complain about, and the price was reasonable. The studios are individually owned, so I am sure they vary in quality..
The location of the resort is fantastic...2 blocks from El Paseo shopping and restaurants. The coffee shop on the premises is nothing to write home about, so we were glad to have a microwave, coffee maker and small fridge in the unit. I also think it is a disadvantage not to have an actual front desk person to ask for travel and restaurant tips. Once we had checked in, we never saw the front desk person again...of course we could have detoured to the lobby ...wifi in our room was off and on.
The unit was just steps from the beautiful tennis courts. I was disappointed that there were no organized group clinics..I was told that this is because it is holiday time (!). I could take private lessons, but did not want to do that. I was matched up in one doubles game each day, which was fine. The courts are oriented so that the sun will be in your eyes on one side in the morning.
All in all a beautiful facility in a great location, reasonably priced.

Thank you for your candid comments. I will review them with staff in hopes your next visit is even better. While our condos are individually owned we do hold high standards and appreciate your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed good tennis and our prime location.

Our family loves the time we spend at Shadow Mountain. Our children love the freedom of opening the condo door and playing volleyball, soccer or ping pong in the vast greenbelt area. We love that they can swim, play tennis and golf every day. The children and adult tennis clinics are superb, and Sharon at the Golf Club is a wonderful teacher, as well.
This is a fabulous family vacation destination. There is something for everyone, and the location is so convenient to shops and restaurants on El Paseo.
We have visited in the winter and in the spring and find the ammenities stellar regardelss of the time of year. All of the condos are privately owned, and maintained very well by the management. We had an issue with a shower faucet, and it was reparied immediately.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children, I recommend a condo on the greenbelt.

Thank you for sharing such wonderful comments. We hope you and your family continue to visit and make lasting memories of fun in the sun at your home away from home! The grassy greenbelt is a popular location for families with children. We also appreciate your kind comments of staff, and are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you back again soon!

We are members of the tennis club, and feel we have found the secret to fun in the desert. Cheryl or JR in the tennis office will call me to see if i want to play doubles "tomorrow morning at 9". Regular tennis matches, clinics, USTA matches, the ball machine, Linda's "upstairs" for breakfast, Wednesday parties, maybe a Calcutta, or a bbq by the fire pit. Or, hanging out by the pool in the sunshine, or some muscle relaxation in the hot tub. And how about a round of golf on the Shadow Mountain Golf course - not too long, but a challenge nevertheless. We haven't stayed at the resort, but have heard excellent comments from guests. You have to see for yourself.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the tennis courts if you want to sleep in!

We had a fabulous time with our 4 grown children as their spouses stayed home with the grandchildren. It's been many years since we with with our own 4, and had the best time ever. Dancing ,swimming, playing tennis ,pingpong and just laughing for hours and bringing back fun memmories. We stayed in unit 410 and can hardly wait to do it again next year.

Shadow Mountain Resort is a very pretty and cozy resort. We loved that you don't need a shuttle to get from one area to another and yet everything you could want is available. The grounds are so well maintained and the staff in every area was very accommodating. When we had a difficulty with the wireless in our room, the management was extremely helpful in making sure a solution was found. The restaurant at the resort served good food when we were too tired to go out to Paseo Road (about 1/3 mile away) where wonderful restaurants abound. The weather in Palm Desert can't be beat and there are many attractions both cultural and natural in reasonable driving distance. Can't wait to go back again.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have updated decor.

We have stayed at this resort maybe 20 times. We are avid tennis players and we often take a large group of 30-55 people to Shadow Mountain twice per year. The resort has a huge pool, Jacuzzi, grass volleyball net and a ton of tennis courts, including a few "clay" courts. There is a small restaurant/café, and in season, a lower smoothie bar. If you look hard, you can find a smaller cardio room, and massage services are available. They run the Desert Tennis Academy from here and the workouts are tough. The pro shop can usually find you a decent tennis game upon request. The rooms are a spread of sudios, 2 and 3 bedroom condos that surround the core pool/tennis facilities. The studios have a kitchenette; the larger condos have a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and typically, a patio. These units are individually owned and they are typically put into a rental pool for day/weekend/week use. This place is pretty fairly priced and it has a good Palm Desert location. Check it out online.

Room Tip: Most rooms surround the greenbelt areas. There are a series of rooms that face the pool and greenbe...

We value our return guests and are glad you enjoyed your recent visit. Our tennis courts are buzzing with great players. And, the Desert Tennis Academy is the best for some serious, but fun play. Your patronage is huge for us and we do appreciate it over the years. We hope to see you back again soon.

Ok, this is an older property dating back to 1940s and its not 5 star, but we have loved this stay. We extended to 9 nights and don't want to leave!

Location: walking distance from elpaseo which is a good shopping street with lots of restaurants.

Accommodation: we r styling in a tennis studio overlooking pool and courts. It's about 500 sq feet and well appointed. It's modern and clean with daily maid service ( they do any dishes that u didn't fit in the dishwasher!) the kitchen has everything... Toaster, blender, garlic press etc.
Warning: the accommodation varies, we saw a 1940s studio ( pretty retro now) and an ultra trendy studio within the complex. If you don't like your room, ask for another as they are privately owned.

Tennis:We are taking tennis lessons each day - John is a great coach and we've really enjoyed this aspect. I am a beginner but my husband has played games with other guests and joined more sophisticated sessions. There's a really nice feeling around the resort; people are very welcoming.

Pool: it's a massive pool and maybe due to timing of our stay ( October) pretty empty. There are also ther smaller pools amongst the villas plus hot tubs, but we didn't use them.

Cafe: the cafe is only open 5 days a week for lunch and breakfast, but it does good salads and sandwiches at very reasonable prices

Downsides: it's a 3 star, there's no pool bar service like you would get at the four seasons. Also, no pool towels provided and loungers are a little dated. There are lots of flowers and good planting but hotel is not immaculate.

The resort is great value at 80-100 usd per night ( we booked online) plus 15 usd pp resort fee Due to location it seems to serve an order clientele, ( we were anomalies with a 6mth old baby).
We did a day trip to joshua tree park ( 1 hr drive) and an afternoon up the tram/cable car (45 min drive). We preferred the former as it was a more unusual place but both were good. As for the tram, it was about 20 degrees cooler at the top so about 65 degrees, only requiring a jumper when you were in shade.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the pool.
