Built in 1974 - this "monument to Christianity" lights up Palm Desert every night. It stands 25 feet tall and can be seen at the Southwest end of Palm Desert. The Cross sits at an altitude of 964 feet and is a great, medium-intensity cardio hike or a sweat-raining, Mountain Bike ride. You can start the climb at the Cap Homme trailhead, from paved South Cliff Road, Upper Way, or the Gabby Hayes trailhead, just behind the Cahuilla Hills public park's Tennis courts. Alternately, it can also be accessed directly from the Bump n' Grind trail, opting for the steep left fork ascent(SW).
Once at the Cross - enjoy breathtaking views, overlooking the entire Coachella Valley. If hiking, wear comfortable Trail Runners, or dedicated Hiking wear. If biking up - bring lots of water, as this ride will have your heart beating straight out of your chest. I ride up it 2x a week and lose about one pound, each week! TIP: DO NOT bring your dogs up here!!!!
