“studios are a bit of a let down”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

My husband and I stayed in a studio room with the two double beds. We had family who owns a timeshare here and they were in a two-bedroom unit. So I booked a studio for $127 AAA rate. Great price. The room was OK, but I was disappointed in a few things:
1. The "kitchenette" is just a counter with a small fridge underneath and a microwave, toaster and coffee maker on top. There is no sink, so it's hardly what I would call a kitchenette.
2. Although the rooms have been redecorated, they still smack of the 70s with the textured walls and ceilings and old, ugly tile in the bathroom/shower. Plus, the tile grout was black and yucky.
3. The shower head was terrible.
4. The only bed configurations are two doubles. No queens or kings.

We could have stayed at Villas II and had a King bed, but I thought it would be a bonus to have access to the JW Marriott resort. In actuality, I would have been fine not going over there. I really don't care for that main pool. It's huge, crowded, noisy and has a frat party or college spring break vibe. Of course, a lot of people like that sort of thing. But if you prefer a little bit of class and relaxation, I don't think you'll enjoy the main pool.

All in all, it was a decent hotel room for the price. But really nothing to be impressed with in my opinion. And again...I'm just referring to the studios. If you have the full two bedroom unit or even the one bedroom suite, that's a whole different story.

We purchased a getaway from Interval International and decided to try the Desert Spring Villas I as it provides access to JW Marriott Resort and Spa. The place is awesome! It's older compared to the Villas II (obviously) but for 7 days and a full kitchen with jetted tub, king size bed with a gorgeous view of the greens and spacious accommodations, we just can't complain! If you have a golf enthusiast with you (as my hubby), this place is paradise! What more, you are 30 minutes away to 130 premium outlet stores (Cabazon) and our vacation stay allowed us to have a complimentary coupon booklet - nice perk - just because I never expected it! :D The area is close to El Paseo Gardens (so those of you who love your name-brands, this is awesome!!!) and if you are looking for organic food/grocery - go to Trader Joe's - that's where we bought our food for the majority of our stay.
The staff at Marriott were also very helpful. Internet is free (you need to read the Vacation Guide that is in your villa if you need help getting the internet started) so you can stay connected in the world and if the pools in the villas are not enough for your whims, you are allowed to use the humungous pool at the JW Marriott property.
All in all - it was a fun and sunny adventure for us. This property, despite it's age, is a great place to be!

We couldn't ask for more from this place, the Villas 1 two brdrm were amazingly roomy and well appionted. Every staff we met were great and quick to help with any problems we found ,such as the hot water heater pilot being off and they arrived within 3mins on a Friday at 11pm to fix it. The property is so relaxing with the views, plus walking to the marriott hotel nearby for us to enjoy the fantastic meals. We felt the hotel offered us a great service during our stay and we completey will return again for another treat at this same location.

  • Liked — the comfortable beds and decor!
  • Disliked — Bottom floor location allows for some upstairs noises to be heard.

I exchanged my timeshare week in Cabo for this property through Interval International. I was looking for somewhere closer to home and with warm weather. Marriott Desert Springs Villas I did not disappoint. We were assigned a 1BD unit in building I, overlooking the golf course and western view of the mountains. The unit was huge, a full kitchen, 6-seat dining table, 3-seat breakfast bar, sunken living room with sectional couch, large outdoor patio, and big bedroom/bath. It was in excellent condition, clean and with nice bed linens. There is a small store on the property or a Ralph's market 1/2 mile down the road. The kitchen was very convenient for making breakfast or margaritas!

The property had 7 swimming pools. The one at the main lobby was nice, usually quiet and not crowded. The Palmeras Pool was larger, but more kids and not as much shade/foliage. A great perk to staying at the MDSV1 is members/guests can use the facilities at the adjacent JW Marriott. The pools there are very large and the spa is great! The spa contains steam rooms, indoor whirlpool, relaxation rooms, and full amenities in the shower areas. The outdoor spa pool is wonderful, ice towels, spray bottles and citrus water available. You can also purchase lunch from the cafe at the spa (healthy good food!). A great walking path leads to the JW and across the street to the Desert Willow Golf area. Saw roadrunners, jack rabbits, lizards, ducks and a coyote. About an hour roundtrip.

The only drawback to staying here or anywhere else in the Palm Springs area is the amount of driving to get to the main attractions / areas. It is about a 10 minute drive to El Paseo or Rancho Mirage. Otherwise, you could remain on the property all day and head out for dinner in the evening.

Thanks Marriott Desert Springs Villas 1 for a great trip!

This was our first visit here. A-1 from the get go. Staff, grounds and suites were all excellent. Booked thru our Getaways from Interval. Excellent and if we ever go back to Palm Springs we will go there again.

This was our second stay at the Villas 1 - our first being 5 years ago. This resort, although showing it's age with some loose exterior tiles and still 'pink' bathroom tiles, is as beautiful as ever. The landscaping and grounds are truly grogeous. We wondered how well-watered and lush everthing would be considering we would be there in August - but we had nothing to fear. Although the temperatures were over 100 F (40C) the flowers, lawns etc were lovely. The units themselves have been redone since we were last there except for the bathrooms which remain in acceptable condition, just dated. The kitchen, now topped in granite, is fairly well equipped although you won't be doing a turkey dinner for sure! We managed to produce an acceptable brunch everyday but ate out in the evenings. We had the entire unit for 4 of us so more than enough room. Although the airconditioning did not work for about half the stay in our children's unit, it was not for lack of trying to fix it on the maintenance workers part. It was frustrating but we appreciated that they were trying to fix it and we didn't want to move units. Our unit was positively on the cold side so I think it may be time to actually replace some air units.

As far as location, we love Villas 1 - close walk the JW Marriot - enjoyed their pool one day - close walk to Las Palmeras Pool at Villas 2 which our kids liked the most. We loved the quieter main pool of Villas 1 ourselves. There are several grocery stores real close by, however this is definately a place where you really do need a rental car if you're flying in. There is a little store called the Marketplace at the main office for emergency dry goods, milk etc - handy...

We HIGHLY recommend taking the tram ride (go in early evening so you can ride down in the dark and see all the lights- beautiful). Our best meal (maybe ever..) was at LG's steakhouse - AMAZING... The Marriot's golf courses are both wonderful and of course the rates can't be beat in the summer! Just book an early t-time and enjoy!

Well ................hard to add to the already very positive reviews but Ill do my best. Rooms are beautiful, large clean and well designed apart from 1 fairly major flaw. We were on the ground floor and it became obvious that the designers had failed to build in sufficient noise insulation between the upper and lower units. Hence you could hear EVERY footstep and toilet flush. This was a shame but provided you have the mindset of 'So what' you'll be fine. Everything else was superb - the people, the location, the pools ..... everything. We would definitely go back.
