“Nice place to stay, great golf course!”
Reviewed December 1, 2006

We were very pleased with the accommodations at Shadow Ridge. We had a first floor one bedroom unit, which overlooked the 15th hole of the golf course. It was clean, everything was in good working order, and the bed & bedding were absolutely wonderful. The patio was very nice also.

They have a wireless Internet connection which was free, although we had to ask the office for a signal booster in order to use it. There is some construction still going on since they are adding more units, but it never bothered us at all.

The golf course was wonderful! It was still cart path only when we played due to overseeding in early November, but I'd still play it again and again given the chance. What lush conditions! It was quite crowded so be sure to book a tee time early and the pace was a bit slow so playing early in the day might be to your advantage if you are in a hurry.

We also played golf at the sister property at the main JW Marriott resort a couple miles away and The Valley course was also a very nice, scenic course. The pace there was even slower, so maybe that is just the way it is in Palm Desert!

  • Liked — Great bed and 2 large vanities with sinks... & spa tub!
  • Disliked — Sofa getting a bit soft & somewhat worn.

Excellent recreational facilities here, even a "quiet pool," volleyball, basketball and, of course, golf.

But this is a timeshare, not a Marriott hotel. Never did get my wake-up call the one day I requested one. But, on checkout day, housekeeping came a-banging on my door, demanding to know when I was going to leave, ignoring the Do Not Disturb sign on my door. (This was at 10:30. Although I found no such notice in any of the materials they gave me, it seems checkout time is 10 am!)

There is daily maid service, but the results are spotty.

Unlike most Marriotts, the wrieless Internet service is free, as is local and 800 phone service--nice!

We booked directly with Marriott and stayed two nights (Friday and Saturday) in Marriott's Shadow Ridge during early October. We got a two-bedroom unit in building 3000. The unit was clean (with the exception of two very dirty throw pillows for the two chairs in the living room) with nice amenities. We loved the water pressure in the bathroom. The jacuzzi tub was definitely a plus too. We were able to walk out the back door to the patio area. Overall the resort was quiet and peaceful. Grounds were beautiful and well kept. We got to park our car right in front of the unit too.

We really hoped to enjoy the swimming more, but the weather wasn't coorperating. It was windy and chilly (relatively speaking) for October. We enjoyed shopping and driving around near the resort. We would love to return to the resort in the near future.

As a Marriott timeshare owner, I am happy to say that this is one of the best resorts we have stayed in.
The unit itself was beautiful. Very clean. Although I can truthfully say that we have had no instances of poorly maintained units at any of our Marriott visits.
The staff here is exceptionally pleasant. Everyone was as helpful as could be.
The Faldo Grill has wonderful food-in fact we ate there 3 times during our week. The servers went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The cost for dinner was about $100.00 for 2 people including a few drinks.
The pool area was lovely. We could always find a great place to sit. It wasn't crowded at all. Being that there are 2 pools next to each other, one was mainly used for the few children that were there at the time and the other was mainly adults. There is a "quiet" pool at the 3000 building.
Be careful about going here during October if you are a golfer. Most of the courses are closed during the month for re-seeding etc. We were lucky to get a round in at Shadow Ridge before they closed. There are othere courses (very close) that stagger the weeks, so that there is somewhere to play. Call in advance to make sure the golf course you want to play is available.
All in all, we would return in a minute to this lovely resort.

  • Liked — Beautiful views. Convenience to many areas of interest.
  • Disliked — Wrong hours of operation on screen...
  • Tips/Secrets — The Elephant Bar is a great place to eat in Palm Springs. Also visit the Living Desert.

We arrived on a Saturday evening, the reception staff were not particularly welcoming or professional.
We stayed in building 1900 with views across a lake and the golf course. The rooms were excellent and very clean. We had two units that could easily have slept eight (2 massive beds and 2 adequate sofa beds). The kitchen is compact and easy to use, although an electric kettle would be much more efficient and faster than the the stove kettle provided.
All furniture was basic but OK.
The place is big and there is a shuttle service to take people around, but the place is lovely and it is a shame not to walk and enjoy the surroundings.
The receptionists improved over our two week stay and the concierge, Robb, was excellent.
The gym is fine, with all the usual machines and weights, but no rowing machine.
The main pool area is good, although they do insist on playing 80's rock music!
The quiet pool is excellent.
Biggest grumble is that there are no recycling facilities!
We are time share owners and are very happy that we chose this place, although Marriott will need to be very conscious of the additional development planned and the facilities that they offer so that the pools etc. are not too packed.

  • Liked — Convenience and ambiance
  • Disliked — no electic kettle or recycling facilities
  • Tips/Secrets — avoid high summer

We had a great time at shadow ridge. The condo was so nice and roomy. We were on the third floor so we had a great view. It was a girls trip. The condo was not far from the pools. It was a little farther from the main lobby and nick faldos restaurant but a great walk which we enjoyed. We did many things in the area. Shopped, ate at many restaurants and took side trips. The concierge was a great help! Overall a wonderful experience. It was offseason so not crowded. We liked that and the weather was in the 80's and felt great!

We just returned from a week at Shadow Ridge and had a wonderful experience. After reading the reviews prior to our trip, I was a bit nervous. We booked a two bedroom villa and requested a specific building and floor. We were accommodated exactly as we requested and found our room to be clean, perfect pillows, and no issues. Yes, the room showed a bit of wear along the floor boards and on the outdoor furniture, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a property that is used weekly. We were there after Labor Day, so there were very few children and they played mainly at the kids pool. You do have to rent a car to get to the grocery store and to the great restaurants on El Paseo in downtowm Palm Desert. There is a shuttle to take you around the property and over to the Marriott Desert Springs hotel where there are shops and restaurants if you don't want to rent a car. If you want a peaceful vacation, just be sure to book off season when it's less crowded.
