“Great locale, great unit, but showing some wear”
Reviewed February 6, 2009

The Marriott Shadow Ridge is basically a timeshare resort, but the units are available and make a great alternative to a "standard" hotel room. The unit we rented was a one bedroom Villa. The Villa model is over 800 square feet, with a full kitchen, dining area, separate bedroom with a large jacuzzi tub. The units are quiet and well furnished, except in this case the furniture is starting to show some wear - but it was completely acceptable, just not at the standard Marriott would most likely like it to be. The parking for the unit was free, two TVs, pool access, golf course view, back patio, etc., All in all, a very nice unit well designed for an extended stay.

Stayed here over Inauguration Weekend for four nights. Beautiful property just 5 minutes off Highway 10. Check-in was excellent and smooth. Thanks Amanda! Stayed in a studio Suite on the 16th fairway, 3rd floor (all buildings are only three stories high). Beautiful view of the golf course and mountain ranges. Property was kept very clean, and really the only complaint I have regarding entire stay, is that as timeshare owners, you only get one cleaning per week. No daily maid service to make your beds or clean trash. Found this a little odd for such a premium brand name resort.

Room was sufficiently decorated, king bed was very comfortable, and flat screen TV worked well with many channels, including HBO. Pool areas were very nice and clean, and parking was plentiful. Golf course was above par for a resort course, and only complaint was pace of play was very slow. Forget about playing 18 holes if you start after 1:00 in the winter months. Faldo's grill was nice, with the best deal being the price-fix early dinners from 5-7 pm for $18. Salad, main course and desert. Not bad for resort casual restaurant. Resort is centrally located, and not far from El Paseo drive, which is the "rodeo" drive of Palm Desert. Plenty of good shopping and restaurants. Ate at Tommy Bahama's Cafe and Firecliff Restaurant. Both very good and reasonable for this otherwise expensive town.

Looking forward to coming back next year!

The whole travel was a grate experience, since we arrive we were impresed with the resort apareance, lobby is nice, all the people in front desk are very kind and move with efficiency.
We took a studio unit, was bigger than spected with a King size bed (what a bed with linens and cushions, all in white), with a big sofa bed for the kids. It had a kitchenete with glasses, dishes, coffe maker, microwave, very complete. Our studio had a small patio facing the lagoon of the golf field, a very nice view, all green and the lagoon had ducks, we could listen them from inside!!! The resort is big, really big, has every thing, 3 pools areas, the bigger for most of the people, one aside for private parties I think and other away, for just calm and relaxing. It has 18 holes golf, basketball, tennis, a mini golf, volleyball and an activity center with all kind of game tables, ping pong, pool, arcade and even a mini theatre where they exhibit movies. They also have a giant chess.
You will love it, is very nice and clean, and you are free to bring your own beverages and food to your room and to the pool, nobody cares.

Husband and I met our best friends in Palm Springs for an annual weekend getaway. We rented a two bedroom villa via the hotel's website direct. We loved the condo - it was brand new - two bedroom, two bath with a fab living room area. The kitchen was totally outfitted with everything except the food. Head to Wallmart for food and drinks to save money. We had great dinners out and got breakfast and lunch stuff to save. The pool(s) and hot tub were perfect. Perfectly manicured, perfectly maintained. Views were amazing. Only downside was that our very nice flat screen TV was constantly on the fritz. Keep in mind this is a retirement community and so it is pretty quiet. Not for youngsters looking to party. Perfect for us!

Shadow Ridge was pretty. The grounds were meticulous, and the staff was very nice. Our room was a one bedroom with a sofa, mini fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. It was very nice.
We were there because we were offered a great rate if we would attend a time share presentation which was to last only 90 minutes. We were there from noon until 3pm. The only reason it finally ended was because I said my husband had to eat. The salesperson continued for another 15 min. before we finally finished. He was not high pressure, but he tried diligently to try to get us to see the advantage of having a time share through Marriott. I will NEVER attend another time share presentation.
We paid $198 for 3 nights and received a $100 certificate which we were able to use for restaurants at Marriott locations. I don't think it was worth our time. We told the presenter our financial situation had changed considerably since we had committed to go to the presentation (last May, 2008). It was to no avail.

Shadow Ridge is at least 4 mi. from the major highway which has many stores, mall and restaurants. That was a disadvantage.

  • Liked — the scenery and grounds
  • Disliked — the time share presentation and its distance from the mall, shops and restaurants

Our family of four, with older teenagers, spent the week after Christmas at Shadow Ridge. We booked a double condo, which had two bedrooms with king sized beds, two full baths, and plenty of living and kitchen space. The teenagers loved the beds - they are comfortable if you don't require a really firm mattress. The condo overlooked the 16th hole on the golf course, was well maintained, clean and quiet. The weather was around 70 degrees and sunny. We did not swim but the family pools were busy. The golf course has a nice layout, is not difficult to play, and was in excellent condition.
Most of our time was spent 20 - 60 minutes west of Shadow Ridge -- hiking in parks, shopping, and dining. The roads are wide and well marked so the drive was not a problem.
While leaving Palm Desert we talked about returning to Shadow Ridge at the end of 2009, which is a sure sign of approval.

My husband and I stayed at Shadow Ridge between Christmas and New Years and overall enjoyed ourselves very much. We chose this resort because there were no additional fees to use facilities, and appreciated the easy access to the courts and exercise room. I REALLY enjoyed the quiet pool for swimming laps. We stayed in a one bedroom on the third floor near the quiet pool, which was perfect for us. So overall Shadow RIdge is a very good destination if you want to swim, play tennis etc, at a reasonable price. BUT.....

BUT there was NO ACOUSTIC PRIVACY between our unit and the one next door - connected by a door (to create a two bedroom suite.) We heard every sound our neighbors made --- football games, babies crying, whining children, and ordinary conversation. This is due to the (cheap) connecting door used and the way it was installed. Yet when we complained to the management they acted as if this were the first time anyone had experienced such a problem and would have charged us a moving fee to move to another identical room. Anyone staying in a one bedroom suite should be aware of this!

I would recommend this resort to a friend WITH THAT WARNING.

  • Liked — Kitchenette, easy access to pool and tennis (no additional fees)
  • Disliked — No acoustic privacy between rooms connected by interior door.
