“Trip to the sun and palm trees”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

Not disappointing. How can one be disappointed when you have a great place to stay (its' own kitchen), walk to the pool, slides, tennis courts or they pick you up to go to the Desert Willows golf course in a golf cart. The service on the site was amazing and I would return without question.

Simon was our concierge and he helped us through and made great suggestions...Your own condo in the desert without owning. INcredible. You had to drive to Palm Desert or Palm Springs but that wasn't a chore. You have privledges at the other Westin Mission Hills so all in all...things are good.

Room Tip: Know what you want and you will get it! Just ask!

I've stayed here numerous times and love it for business and families. It's a one bedroom apartment complete with full size kitchen and washer/dryer. The upgraded suites also have fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs. You park right outside your room. It's centrally located so you can get anywhere in the desert. The couch in the living room pulls out for the kids. Gourmet grocery store (Bristal Farms) around the corner to stock the kitchen (did I mention the full sized kitchen?!).

Caution: This is NOT a romantic hotel. It is a practical hotel. There is no room service. If you want romance there are dozens of better suited hotels in the desert. The Parker, The Viceroy, The La Quinta Hotel...too many to name.

1. They are doing major construction of this resort and for the next several years you will have to be very careful not to get a room where construction begins outside your window at 8:00 a.m. and continues for the day
2. The Westin plays loops of canned music in all their public areas and at this particular resort they play it loudly. We will never return here because the music in the pool area was so loud that we could not concentrate to read anything but the lightest novels, in spite of many requests to turn the music down. It is vocal music from the 80's and 90's which is hard to ignore. Instrumental music, if you have to have anything would be much easier to live with. Everyone we talked to hated it, including the employees
3. The balconies on these villas are enclosed by walls on three sides and painted a dark brown. Add to that the lighting was very dim, which meant that even in the day you could hardly see to read a book. I think their design is a very big architectural mistake as you feel a bit like a mole.
4. The lock-off unit sounds like a good idea because you end up with a living room and a bedroom. But the living room windows open onto the outside walkway which means passers-by can see right into your living space so we tended to keep them closed. Add to this the dark balconies and we really hardly saw the light of day from our room, which added to the mole effect.
Overall, our stay at this resort was very disappointing and we will not return.

Room Tip: Be sure to avoid rooms close to construction and be aware that the lock-offs are quite dark because...

Dear Guest, I apologize that we were unale to meet your needs. We will address with our teams the concerns regarding the music playlist by the pool. We are also looking into ways to adjust the lighting in our units and balcony areas to increase light. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with you feedback.

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend. Beautiful views in all directions. Rooms were very clean and spacious. We had a large patio. With-in walking distance to best kept secret...the Fire Cliff golf course patio restaurant - Fabulous breakfasts daily with the most beautiful view. Wonderful staff, they were all very friendly. Was nice to have two separate pool areas, one for quiet and one for fun! We would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Request a corner unit. They are much brighter and the patios get sun on them. We stayed in buildin...

This is a new Westin property. I was in building 5, on a ground floor unit and I loved it. Free roaming jackrabbits right out the patio slider, 2 large pools at walking distance close to the lobby, the restaurant and the market shop, nice views of the golf course. Quiet and relaxed resort. Best to have a rental car to get arond town. Around the property you can either walk or get a golf cart ride. Guests can use the services at its sister property Mission Hills as well.

Room Tip: If you do not like to walk, get a room in building 1 or 2, if you like to be more secluded with only...

Just enjoyed a fabulous weekend this weekend! We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and we had a great time. The villa was large enough for us that we didn't feel like we were tripping over each other and the fully stocked kitchen allowed us to cook some meals and save money. We spent the entire day Saturday by the pool - over 6 hours. There was never a loss for activities for our daughter: crafts, waterslide races, you name it! The resort was at 97% capacity but it was never too crowded. Staff was friendly, helpful and eager to please. The resort was so clean and well landscaped - very pretty. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you only need 1 bedroom (which also includes a sleeper sofa in the living room) ask for the Premi...

We are Starwood owners (but not at this property). The villa (had the small side of the lock off since we were staying on a promotion) was very clean and comfortable as expected. The unit was ready when we arrived at 2 pm so we did not have to wait.

The concierge, Candice, was friendly but rather discouraging for her job. She asked us what we wanted to do during our stay...I mentioned the Jeep tour of the San Andreas Fault...she did assist us in getting the reservation but told us that she has did this tour and it was "ok if you didn't mind the heat and climbing over rocks and stuff". This made us a little concerned but still booked the tour....and we had a blast. We are both over 50 and not of the "athletic type" but the hiking was easy and at your own pace while the guide was so interesting you didn't even notice it. I also mentioned the Palm Springs Follies and she told us they didn't start until Nov 4 ( we are leaving that day). The other gentleman working at the desk checked the computer and informed us the show started Nov1. Candice continued to be "less than excited" about the show so we did not book it. Throughout the week we were told by others how great the show is and shouldn't be missed. I also asked about the Pines to Palms Scenic Byway.....she said she never heard of it. We did a Google Search ( and TripAdvisor search) to get the route.....absolutely not to be missed if you have a car while visiting this area.

The resort is not nearly completed yet so it is inconvenient to have to walk so far to the pool area if you are on a back building ( we were in #5) but they do come quickly to transport you by golf cart if you call. This problem will be eliminated once the new pools are opened next year. The restaurant and bar will remain at a distance however which is unusual for a Starwood property. I found it ridiculous to pay $15/day to park when it is outside parking and the rooms are not cheap to begin with. We have never encountered parking fees t the other resorts.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and talkative as we would expect from Starwood. The property is immaculately clean and cared for. We feel this resort is a work in progress at this point. We are not golf ears therefore we needed to search for things to do but had a great time none the less.
