“Good resort, great rooms, medium-rowdy”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We spent an extended weekend at the Westin Desert Willow Villas with two pre-teen kids. It was a great property for that and the villa itself was lovely - well appointed, comfortable, spotlessly clean, and quiet despite the very happy party down the hall. We especially enjoyed the barbecue grill areas which provided just enough socializing but plenty of room. The pool and water slide are great for kids of any age but BEWARE that it's on the rowdy side and was downright loud in the late afternoon - but fun. We loved the friendly complimentary golf cart shuttle service. Our biggest disappointment was that the pool area and wait staff were inconsistent at best (one lazy soul said he "like, really, checked" the lost and found; his buddy returned with our missing item 3 minutes later). Poolside food was disappointing but they appear to have no objections to BYOB. We would go again and this property could be absolutely ideal for a reunion or get-together - just not for splash- or noise-sensitive individuals.

This is a very good resort. The rooms were very clean and roomy - there was no noise from other guests. Excellent pool area - although 2 of the pools were undergoing construction compliance. We knew in advance that some of the pools were closed - as it was clearly displayed on their website. Which was good. This is a good resort for both families & couples. We plan on staying here for next visit to the Desert area.

We just returned from a weekend at the Westin villas with our small children, and we had a great time. The facility was beautiful... new and maintained well. We were greeted at the front desk by helpful staff and were told that our room was not ready, and so we killed time by getting ice cream at the resort's market (young woman that worked there was so friendly) and also swimming in the pool. Pool area was crowded since it was the only pool open at the time. Still, plenty of chairs and dispensers with cold water all around. Around 3:30, we were called on our cell phone that room was ready.

We stayed in a premium one bedroom villa. The room was beautiful. Large kitchen (complete with everything you could need to do your own cooking), nice dining and living areas, large bedroom and wonderful bathroom, and nice patio with table and chairs. The room looked very clean. During our stay, we did not hear a single noise from neighbors, even though there were guests occupying those rooms.

Kids had fun doing a few crafts by the pool (around $2-5 fee for each). Employee Aileen was very sweet in helping the kids.

There were a few disappointments... We knew ahead of time that two of the three pools would be closed due to ADA compliance (I believe to install handicapped lifts). However, during our entire stay, we did not see a single person working on the pools. It would have been nice to have pools open until the work began. Water slide was fun for kids, and supervised by lifeguards (who did not seem overly excited to be there.). Frequently the lifeguards would disappear during the 10 am and 5 pm that the slide was open, and you would have to find someone to call them back to reopen the slide. The last disappointment was that the scheduled activities hardly seemed to take place. Kids were excited to do s'mores at 6:30 as advertised. Got to the designated area and waited around for a while. Finally asked a pool employee if we were in the right place, and he grumbled that we were and didn't seem excited to have to set up the s'more activity. If activities are scheduled, it seems they should be set up... not only when a guest asks about it.

Overall, we still enjoyed our time. We will be sure to return when the pools are open.

The place has small rooms with very nice beds. The location is kind of in the middle of no where. We thought it was understaffed and be careful walking from rooms to parking lot as employees need to drive through that area to get to their parking lot. Need I say more???

We are not strangers to the Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs area....however our usual place was completely booked so we decided to stay at the Desert Willow Villas this trip. Once we arrived, the excitement in my 6 year old couldn't be contained so we immediately headed to the pool. Our walk to the pool accentuated her excitement as she was able to see the cool waterslide in view. We made our way inside the pool area and much to our surprise it was quite empty...not that I minded! My little swimmer headed straight to the slide and returned with the saddest face EVER! She had to be 48" to ride the slide...and no, neither her father or I could ride with her. The disappointment on her face was enough to ruin our entire trip. She is an excellent swimmer and literally JUST SHY of the "required" height. I looked on the website and didn't see anything stating that she had to be 48" or that she couldn't ride with an adult. I think this needs to be in BOLD letters on your site in clear view BEFORE the booking confirmation page!! So we headed back to our room after swimming, and her excitement was once again renewed when she saw the big, beautiful jacuzzi tub in our room....only to be let down again by the water temperature of the tub not getting warm enough to even play in!!! Seriously....the shower was roomy and hot, but the tub wasn't even WARM! The only good thing I can say about our trip was the dinners we ate off-site. We will not be returning to this particular site and being a family of 5, could mean a hefty amount of money spend on gifts, drinks, appetizers, tips, and other gratuities lost.

Room Tip: Only 2 buildings are near the pool....all other buildings are quite a walk to the pool and lobby are...

Dear Guest, let me apologize for the disappointment your little one encountered at our resort. The 48" high requirement is a regulatory requirement mandated to us. Can you inform us of which website your reservation was booked on? We will definitely address the hot water concern with the jacuzzi in your villa during your stay. Can you advise us of your room number? Would it also be possible for you to reach out to me at your convenience? I would appreciate the opportunity to connect with Jennifer H regarding the stay. My email is warren.jerome@westin.com. Thank you for taking time.

We've stayed here many times. Although the main pool was closed due to ADA required upgrades. our stay was great. I had to get some business out of the way our first morning, and I really needed help with some faxing scanning emailing etc, Klaryssa at the front desk helped me out like an executive secretary.
All the staff, from the pool guys and restaurant staff were really 5 star.
People can make or break a short (or long) vacation, the staff here are tremendous.
A nice hidden gem is the Agave bar and grill, (especially happy hour). they have really good chicken tacos, and turkey wraps. Haven't gone deeper in the menu, but these are good desert meals (light and tasty) good beers on draft also.
Went out to dinner for a good italian dinner, but wished I'd stayed for the lighter freshy stuff at the Agave.

Room Tip: higher floor with golf course view (north view) was great, had some loud people below us (when outsi...

I recently stayed at the Westin Desert Willow Villas for four nights on business. The property is located in Palm Desert close to the convention areas and convenient to everything in the area.

The property itself is very well maintained. The lobby area, pool and fitness center are all first rate. Everything is very modern and in good repair along with being extremely clean.

The rooms are awesome. Built as time share rentals, each room has its own living area, bedroom, bathroom along with a kitchen and laundry (washer/dryer) which is very convenient for longer stays.

The beds are the super comfortable Westin beds for a great night sleep. Both the living area and the bedroom have their own TV's. The living rooms adds a DVD player and Bose stereo. The kitchen is completely equipped with stove, dishes, dish washer and fridge with ice maker. They have a full size coffee maker and Starbucks coffee.

I dont think there is a restaurant on the facility and definitely no room service so plan accordingly. There is a nice patio with outdoor table and chairs. The climate control is excellent and gets cold very quick.

Overall a great stay, I would certainly stay at this property again
