Really liked the gardens, some TLC needed in places, but the variety was impressive and the number of gardens to see equally so. In addition, you have the animals which are fun to see. The hike into the desert to view the San Andreas fault from a distance and then beyond was a nice contrast/complement to the Gardens.

Be sure to stop at the hospital. Often a procedure to help a desert animal.

We take our grandchildren here every time they come and we all enjoy the variety of animals on exhibit. The new borns are especially fun to watch grow.

Take the free guided tour offered - a wealth of information regarding all aspects of this beautifully developed site. All staff very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. It will take at least half a day - we intended to stay for a couple of hours and left 4 1/2 hrs later having not covered it all. Go early - easier when not so hot.

My husband and I spent about 2.5 hours here one afternoon right before closing. We enjoyed how the animals almost appear to be out in the wild, as if you could actually touch some of them. The giraffes were really cool and we spent a long time playing with a cheetah through the glass for a while - it was so cool! It was also dinner time for the mexican wolves so they were very active and entertaining.

We visited the animal hospital on site which was also very interesting. We've been to many zoos in different locations but never actually got to visit the zoo hospital, a nice bonus. It's not a big zoo and we did manage to see it all during our visit. Their gift shop is also quite nice. We got some nice souvenirs to take home.

If you love animals, I'd definitely recommend stopping by for a visit!
