“Fun”

The Living Desert is a nice, fun thing to do outside if the weather is nice; which is almost always in the area. Nice exhibits and the gardens are interesting. It gives descriptions of the trees and plants. One thing I would like to see is how those plants are used on the signs. For instance if it is for food, water, medicine, herbs, etc. The train exhibit is one of a ind. It is an enormous electronic train that kids would love to play with but unfortunately can not. That would be a nice exhibit (even for a fee) to operate the train with one of the operators there. With that exhibit, they could really do something with it under supervision for kids, and even adults. Maybe some television screens following the trains around the track. All in all, a fun neat thing to do if you are not from the desert.

“Try their Palms to Pines and Anza Borrego State Park Tours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

We did both of these day long bus tours and recommend them highly. A geology professor who has lived in the area most of his life imparts lots of knowledge, and a bit of humor. The first goes to Idyllwild where you are on your own for lunch: we loved "Aromas". The second hopes to show wildflowers, and has a couple of flora experts in addition to the geologist. We saw few (2) wildflowers because it's been so dry. Saw a lot and learned some, too.
Buy these tours well in advance on their website.

“Outstanding attraction, a great way to spend a day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

A very interesting exhibit of wildlife, from big cats to the big horn sheep. You can walk the park at your leisure or take a jitney which provides a decent who gives you a very nice tour of the park. This cost extra but is worth the cost as you can get and off all day at your convenience.
There is plenty of places to get refreshments, but they are not cheap. Most experienced visitors bring a back pack or napsack and utilize the many tables along the way to relax and eat.
If going for the first time check out the annual pass especially if there are several in your party. Annual passes come with free guest passes, and the ability to purchase more passes at reduced prices for your guest.
Check the weather before going and dress accordingly. Bring sun screen and comfortable walking shoes and enjoy a great zoo and wildlife.

“Absolutely Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

I was really surprised by how wonderful this experience is. There are great animals to see - giraffes, lions, vultures, etc. - but the real treasure is the wonderful habitats they have created and the many trails where you can experience the life and culture of various desert locales. We were there for the animal show, which included a bird singing Happy Birthday to a an enchanted 4 year old boy. Good value, too. The only disappointment was the tacky stuff in the gift shops. They really need an upgrade there. We toured the animal hospital. Amazing. A great experience.
