This hotel building was designed by some mad architect! (no offense :) The plan reminds labyrinth... very hard to find your way around. It took us some time even to find the reception when we arrived!
The location is superb! The ocean beach is very beautiful. Better building plan would create a really nice ocean side resort!
If you book a room with "the partial ocean view" get ready to have a view of the roof with AC units! (Our room was #315) Only when you stand next to the window - you'll have your partial ocean view (but you'll have to put your face next to the glass!).
The room itself and amenities are good. Design of the bathroom area is awkward! Sink is in the separate room than the shower/bath and toilet. When you open the door to the bathroom - you cannot access the sink...
Heated swimming pool and jacuzzi that is open till 10pm is really nice!
We also liked our breakfast at their "Moonraker" restaurant (not included in hotel price and not cheap). The food , the service and the ocean view is very good! The interior design is quite dated...
It really takes only 20 min to get to San Francisco from there. Very convenient.
Another nice place to have a breakfast with the ocean view - Taco Bell place further down the highway.
Overall it was ok stay. I was disappointed to have a view of AC units instead of expected partial ocean view and did not like the layout of the hotel. Everything else was quite nice.

Room Tip: To have a room with true "partial ocean view" better ask for the top floor (4th floor)

Stayed here at the end of our California vacation before heading to airport. The room we had was a good size on the seaside so the view was great. The room was OK, comfy beds, had a small frig., good hot water for showering on a chilli night. Nothing fancy here but totally efficient for our needs. The TV is located in a weird position so that if you want to sit in the chair you can't see the screen or you have to be on the bed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the ocean.

I stayed at this hotel for my first solo vacation to the Bay Area. I stayed two nights in June. The location on the beach was gorgeous, and the hotel itself was fairly easy to find. The staff was polite but not above-and-beyond friendly. The room itself was definitely a challenge to find; the hotel is a bit of a maze. I did have a partial ocean view, which was lovely. My neighbors were quiet, but with the patio doors open, I could hear everything in the room next door. The "patios" (you can't actually walk out on to them) are connected and that did seem a bit unsafe. And with the lack of AC in the rooms, it is necessary to have the sliding glass doors to the patio open at night. The attached restaurant was lovely in appearance and fair in service and food.

I would stay there again and recommend it mainly based on the location - watching sunsets right out the back door is wonderful.

We arrived late at SFO Int. Airport and after twenty minutes drive you are checking-in at a seafront hotel. Next morning you can walk south over the hill and you will find a good surfbeach with infrastructure. The location makes a fantastic experience, it's a kind of a real lighthouse hotel. The rooms are in good shape with clean beds. All other things of this hotel you can forget. For breakfast you have a nice seaview, but it's not worth. If you are looking for a romantic seaside resort, go elsewhere. Parking is free. We can recommend this hotel for a good night very near at the edge of the sea with a great California feeling.

The staff really has gone out of their way on out trip to help with anything we have needed, always super friendly and helpful, from advise on things to do, places to eat, even warming up our leftovers in thier microwave (the fridge in the room had frozen them solid, LuAnn was so patient with us,constantly checking and giving it more time). The houskeeping staff did a great job on the room everyday. They all really made the stay all the more special.

The proximity to San Francisco was good, got into town and down by Fisherman's Wharf usually within 25-30 minutes, worked out great, if you are ok with some traffic at times.

The hotel is nice, parking is kind of under the motel, so pretty well protected. Rooms are well appointed, and nicely sized. Nothing is really over the top , except location, the beach right outside the motel, surfers in the water, and waves breaking right out of the rooms is really terrific.

Don't know about the restaurant, prices on menu scared us to other places, but the view from the door is amazing.

Definitely no complaints about anything, all positives on this trip. Thanks to all who work there, you made our first trip to California really special.

Room Tip: The desk recommended to call directly, and they can get you into an acean view room, they are not av...

I arranged for a weekend away using a free night certificate. At the time I made the reservation we were told "it's an ocean front room with two queens" (we had our three yr. old grandson with us). We already knew the location of the hotel and an ocean front room....we were excited and looking forward to this stay.

We arrived, registered and went to our room......the most horrible view ever! And it certainly wasn't an ocean view. I called Best Western Rewards program and they tried to help by calling the hotel however, there weren't anymore ocean view rooms available. That's on BW Rewards program probably more than the hotel....just to be fair.

Within a few minutes of being in the room my wife made a comment about the carpet being damp. It was. Then, as the sun started to set, closed the balcony slider and in short time we noticed that there was a very musty odor. I think this may be the norm for old wood construction buildings buit along the ocean as I've smelled that odor before. The hotel is old.

As I slid the balcony slider closed, we noticed that the sheer curtain was ripped, lengthwise, at the edge closest to the door handle. Tacky.

When we returned to our room for the evening we heard a lot of noise coming from the room above us. It was obvious that it was a couple with several small kids running all around. It didn't slow down by 9:30 p.m. and so I called the front desk. It slowed for approx. 15 min. then started back up. I called the front desk again at about 11:00 p.m. and it stopped. Remember, it's old wood frame construction so sound proofing between the floors is near non-existent.

I had just barely gotten to sleep when we were all three woke up by the bed springs of the bed closest to the balcony. Somebody was getting lucky. It would go for five minutes or so then it would stop for ten to fifteen minutes then they'd go at it again. We assume they were waiting for their kids to go back to sleep. Finally, I had enough and called the front desk again.....to no avail. It was the most miserable night of lodging we'd had in years.

The up side is the location (although there are several other hotels and motels within a block) is the beach. Like they say, location, location, location. It also had a nice clean pool and hot tub that was very inviting.

The way the hotel was built in sections, years apart, it makes getting from the front desk to your room very challenging (if it's what they call a courtyard view on the back side, in the C section of the hotel) and also trying to get to the pool was even more of a gauntlet. There isn't an outside entrance to the pool.....you have to go down a very long hall to the B section of the pool and on the first floor, which is on the second level up. Also, if you go to the second floor above the registration desk and walk the hall back to C section you're no longer on the second floor.....you're now on the first floor and have to take another elevator up to the second floor of section C part of the building.

Room Tip: Make sure you're not getting a courtyard view room.....get a real ocean view on the second floor...

Our room was nice, everything listed for our room was in the room.
The other guests around us were quite, The bed was okay, we will stay here again. The room was ready on time.

Now the not so good part, The attached restaurant leaves much to be demanded, poor service, rude service, twice in my life have I ever gotten up and walked out of a restaurant this was the second time !, I will never spend a penny in this overrated under preforming want to be restaurant, i have no problems saying this because I know the restaurant management nor the service help cares.
