“Perfect One Night Stay”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

This place deserves its number one rating. We arrived here after a tiring day of driving through Big Sur. When we arrived we were very nicely greeted by Barbara and an unexpected complementary plate of cold cuts, bread, and cheese (which were great) and a bottle of wine (which I didn't try). The room was perfect with a nice big tub and fireplace. Pacific Grove is a beautiful quiet place and I'm happy I stayed here instead of in much busier Monterrey.

The Sunset Inn was a pleasant place to stay. Pacific Grove is a hidden little city close to all Monterey's attractions and extremely quiet at night. Our Queen size room was spacious as was the Jacuzzi tub my wife and I were able to fit into at the same time. Room was up a flight of stairs, so I had to carry our suitcase up, but we had an elevated deck to sit on during our stay; a good trade off. Only drawback was the refrigerator would constantly switch on and off. The office lady Barbara was very friendly as were the housekeeping ladies. Stayed in several different properties in the Monterey area over the years and the Sunset Inn was probably the best value for the price.

Room Tip: Get the Jacuzzi room.

The inn was a pleasant surprise as we've never stayed anywhere like it. We were looking for someplace different than our usual Marriott experience. Barbara had to direct us to the inn because our IPhone Map was incorrect. The room was very clean and comfortable. P.G. is a laid back spot between touristy Monterrey and Carmel. We would definitely stay here again.

I have nothing but good things to say about Sunset Inn. The customer service was excellent. Barbara was super nice. They were very accomodating from booking the room to reserving the bikes and having everything ready for us when we arrived. It's a nice, quiet location and walking distance to the ocean. Housekeeping was very accomodating and friendly. Our room had a fireplace and huge jetted tub. The bed was cozy and the room was decorated very nice. I'll definitely visit again.

We had no complaints staying here at all. The room was lovely! It was modern yet traditional at the same time. It was clean, comfortable and the shower was great! Iwould reccomend this as a place to stay if visiting Monterey!

Sunset Inn was adequate but does not warrant the #1 rating it currently has on TripAdvisor. It is in a nice location and was quiet. However, our room had a very spartan feel to it and left a lot be desired, considering what we paid. It was very expensive.

We stayed in the back of the unit in an upstairs room with a jacuzzi and kitchen. The carpet on the stairs leading up to the unit was filthy and there was a strong smell of urine. The stairwell was dark and the stairs were steep. Inside, the room was clean but smelled moldy. In the bathroom, there was no counter space to put our personal items -- just a standing sink. There was also no reading light or table on the right side of the bed -- only on the left, which was odd. In the kitchen, I searched but could not find any kitchen towels or paper towel. The refrigerator was noisy and made a humming sound all night. For these reasons, I would not return.

We have stayed at Sunset Inn many times now, and it never is less than a great stay. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is helpful, but not in your face. The rooms with balconies are especially nice on which to have morning coffee. Barbara, the wonderful manager, is accommodating and pleasant to work with. The amenities which are just enough, and I not too much. I know we are not paying for exotic creams, oils and soaps which we did not ask for and will not use! There is a vast array of things to do and see on the peninsula, and after a busy day, this is a home-away-from-home to look forward to coming back to.

The room pictured in our photos has a kitchen, but it is not for parties with children, so keep that in mind if you wish to get this room.

I have some medical issues that make a standard mattress not-so-fun, so my only desire is that they had Tempurpedic or some kind of memory foam mattresses. But then, I guess, it would be perfect, and we would never leave, right?

Room Tip: The balcony rooms at the back are fun for coffee in the morning.
